What is Your Excuse for Not Exercising?
Severe, searing pain in my hips after I walk about 100 feet. Oh, and a terrific fear of the water, so that's not an option for me -- never been in a pool in my life, was thrown into a lake at age 5 by an adult who should have known better and throught it was funny.
So, I have an appointment later in the week to go see what's up with my hips.
I hear ya there, Dan , esp. in my right hip .. It seems whenever I would try to slip off my shorts while standing, before going into the shower, the lifting action of my leg/thigh would REALLY hurt like hell .. That pain has subsided considerably since the weight loss .. If there was any prior joint damage hopefully it is reversing (if that is possible) ..
Get it checked out as soon as you can, and I would ask that they do a Dexiscan bone density test on you too, as you will need to recheck it a year out from surgery to be sure you are not losing calcium from the bones ..

i'm up to just under 50 miles a week but I didn't get to this point overnight. i've SLOWLY increased my mileage by no more than 10%, properly stretched, utilized my rest periods to my advantage and iced my knees, shins and ankles multiple times a day. go from 0 to many miles a week too soon and you are sure to injure yourself. running isn't for everyone and there are plenty of exercises that people can do that aren't as hard on the joints. I avoid all legwork and lower back work in the gym because they have been the source of injuries for me in the past but i'm willing to bet that some will rave about squatting 600 pounds.
a lot of media sources talk about switching addictions post-op from wls. I switched from eatting 6000 calorie meals to running 13 miles. I think most docs would agree that's a good switch.
All of my excuses can basically be rolled up under one heading. "I was being a *****". That pretty much covers all of them. I was on the road a lot this weekend, going to watch my younger daughter play basketball out of town Friday night, and taking my older daughter back to college Saturday and Sunday, so I haven't walked a lick since Thursday. And every bit of that can be explained in five words. I was being a ***** Back to hoofing the route today after work though. ***** time is over.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
