Hi Guys -  I am 3 1/2 weeks out and tried something last night.  I ordered 2 Chinese egg rolls and gutted the insides.  I then ate that and pitched the fried outer shell.  BIG mistake HUGE. I could barely breathe and couldnt drink and was out of it for hours.  I slept and think it finally has gone through but ohhhhh the pain last night.  Right now it is intermitent.  I hope I didnt ruin the pouch.  I never know what to eat.  He gave me a list and I am sticking to it for the most part. Well, I am asking for help please.  Dont be to critical I am trying to do this. Thanks! Matty

hi matty. that's unforunate man but you seemed to have learned your lesson. you definitely will be able to eat egg rolls again, fried part and all, but not at a month out. you really need to test the water from time to time to see if 'food x' agrees with you. if it does then add it to your diet. if it doesn't (like the egg roll) wait a couple months and try again. now regarding the egg rolls i'm willing to bet it was the fat that caused you to dump. even though you only ate the yummy goodness of the inside of the egg roll, it was submerged in a vat of hot oil to cook. unless the shell of the egg roll was weaved with kevlar that hot oil penetrated the dough and doused the veggies and meat inside. I dump on occasion from fat / fried foods too. usually not much pain involved but i'll usually end up with a case of explosive diarreah. have a good one. chad

Everybody screws up. I am in fact the president of the local F*ck up club. Just try to learn from your mistakes and move on. The built in negative feedback of this procedure reminds us in no uncertain terms at times to eat the "new" way. Personnaly I need the negative feedback. In your case right now, if you don't feel better soon you should probably phone the Dr. office and tell them what happened. You didn't ruin anything but you may have bruised it. Hope things get better real soon. What we've done to ourselves is a big deal. As you are finding out. Hang in there, its all worth it.

For those times when you screw-up (don't let it become a habit) and something gets stuck...or in those times when something gets stuck and it's not due to a screw-up --- PAPAYA ENZYMES.  You can get it at GNC and I've seen it at Wal-mart too.  Works the same way as the meat tenderizer trick but does not taste as nasty and IMO works much quicker.  Plus it's a more desirable option than a forced !!! Just thought I'd pass this along as a tip...things are going to get stuck, but there's no reason to suffer for an hour or more when it happens. Cards Fan

Now I sound like a chick...  How 'bout this instead: 'Tell me what papaya enzymes are, or I'll hafta beat it outta ya!' "Hey!  Another beer over here..."    "BRRAAAPPPPPPPPP......." Ahhhhh....  I feel more manly already!

A common RNY trick is that when food gets caught in your stoma, instead of throwing it up...you  drink some warm water with meat tenderizer or papaya enzymes to help dissolve it so it can pass. Scott

As you can tell from the other posts, we all make mistakes when we're starting out post-op.  And, we are warned by the doc's office to slowly introduce solid foods to our food plan so we'll know what is giving us problems.  What you may not be able to eat today--probably shredded cabbage--you may be able to eat in a few weeks. Many of you have been put on liquid diets prior to surgery and then you go on a liquid diet for another 2-3 wks following surgery.  There's just a desire to have real solid food.  It's hard going through the puree stage.  I couldn't stand the way meat tasted pureed.  But you will get through it all. As to the list the doc gave you, you said you're sticking to it for the most part.  I think you've found out what happens when you stray from that list in the early weeks post op.  If you have any questions about eating a particular food, call his office or the nutritionist's.  They probably have a good idea whether you are at a point where you can start eating other food.  My doc gave a list of various foods I could eat at various weeks post-op and it worked out fine. You'll learn and you will progress.  And, hopefully, in a few months you'll be helping other newbies on this forum.  This is how our group works.  It's good to get the post-ops with a few months under their belts helping the newly post-ops because they can easily relate to the newbies' experiences.  Also, they become a more integral part of our group by helping other men.

Here is big "I second that" on the papaya enzyme tablets. They're like a miracle! Take 3 or 4 if you feel "stuffed" and soon you'll feel better. You can get them at GNC but you can also get them for about 1/2 GNC's price at WalMart.

A little over 4 months out and I'm ashamed to say I don't know what the meat tenderizer trick is either. I assume you eat it to help move stuck items through?
