Unless the judge herself happens to be carrying a little excess baggage under her robe, huh? We need to get the couselor's expert opinion regarding his experiences.  Boner

Some guys hate going to the doctor or dentist.  A lot of times it takes nagging from a spouse or good friend to get them there. My dad had a pacemaker implant about 6 weeks ago. He had not been to the doctor in several years, and passed out at the local supermarket.  Reasons can vary from being too busy, not caring about person appearance, not wanting to take time off from their job, feeling "invincible" that nothing will affect their health, etc. I attend 3 support meets per month on a normal basis.  From those in attendance, it seems that only about 10% of those there are men, if that.  In all probability, those men who got WLS  only did so when health issues became a BIG factor in their daily lives. I heard a commedian one time talking about differences between men and women. (Do some of these hacks even have another topic?) And he says that the most beautiful women in the world all know intimately what their physical flaws are, and worry constantly about them, and even fabricate some that aren't there. Meanwhile, the world is full of baldheaded slobs with three chins and a gut the size of a sack of dog food hanging over their belt, yet they're all convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are the sexiest motherhumper that ever walked down the street. As with all humor, there's an element of truth to this. Which makes me agree with Dave in that a whole lot of us men don't seek solutions until our health begins to deteriorate and we have to face the reality that we're cutting our lives way short. We're to delusional to let vanity enter into the equation. That's damned sure how it was for me. Except that I'm not baldheaded.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

dx,

i was in the 05 uptick. here in LA is a different story. we have radio personality by the name of bill handle. he did a five part series on his wls. he and i have the same surgeon. so all that airtime of a male getting the surgery helped his office get more guys. all the other guys made good points. there comes a time when we look in the mirror and just don't see the super fat anymore. complete denial. also all the other posts were right on too as to why men don't have it done. in my case however i came to the point of 10 insulin injections a day, tons of pills, eventually an insulin pump blah blah. my endo told me to get wls as i had given up losing weight. very hard to do on insulin. my g/f listens to handle in the morning and told me about his web site with the series on it. i listened and he hit it right on the money for me. he was telling my story.

point of this is that some of us had a guiding hand. there was a link to OH on my docs site which eventually got me to here thanks to your posts on the main board. so i think unless a guy has a way into here, a friend who had it or some advertising from a guy (like you and tim) he's not going to jump through all the hoops nor admit the problem. i have to admit, it was only a matter of weeks between decision and surgery. i can see it's not like that at all anymore. i honestly thought, how did i get here so fast and is it really what i wanted? it happened a little too fast for me. now guys have to make this huge commitment to the process and it sucks except it does weed out the fence sitters which i think is a good thing. i took it seriously in the end but i really feel you ought to know this going in. i didn't but ended up on the right side due to this forum. just my thoughts.......carbonblob

I think some of the things you guys say is right but things are more complex than mentioned, there is a lot more to it than men just don't want to go to the DR. In our world men have to be the top money earner period. Show me a man who has a wife who earns more than him and I will show you a divorce in the making. Simple fact is men have to 'earn' and don't have time to go to the DR and get surgery and such.

The other thing is it is socially acceptable for a man to pay for their women to be prettier. Don't think so? How many men have paid for their wives/girlfriends boob jobs? It is not however, socially acceptable for him to do the same for himself. If he does so he has to keep it on the QT otherwise he is stigmatized.
