It's Those 'Lil F.A.R.T.s That Keep Ya Goin'

Being almost two years out now, it seems it's getting fewer and far between in regard to running into people who knew me as a pre-op but have not seen me since my WLS.   Today I had one of those distinct pleasures, though, when i went to visit a medical clinic that I send some of my personal injury clients to for treatment.  'Dr. M." is a chiropractor and, like those of that type usually are, quite the fitness buff, although he has been battling the "battle of the bulge" the last few years himself.  At his clinic's old location he used to take a 2 1/2 hour lunch off almost every weekday to walk several blocks down the street to his local Gold's Gym and work out w. weights and cardio, and then walk back to work.     His clinic has, since my surgery, relocated less than a mile down the same street my new office is on.  He no longer walks the walk, but does find some time to work out once in a while at another gym/spa.     I paid Dr. M. an impromptu visit this afternoon for the first time since my surgery.  I think at first he was a bit puzzled when one of his receptionists went to fetch him for me and I entered the therapy room to greet him.  He quickly became all smiles when he realized it was me, and hurried me off to a quiet exam room in the back where we could talk and I could tell him my "Great Pumpkin Story" as I like to call it, regarding my WLS experience.  He couldn't quit grinning the whole time and I could tell he was so happy for me, as I told him about the disappearance of my diabetes, sleep apnea, and of course the restoration of my energy and enthusiasm and ability to do things I could only do many years earlier.  I even shared with him some of the downpoints of my experience, including my post-op depression spells (which really intrigued him, like anyone naturally would who thinks we should be on top of the world with all that has happened to us).  But overall he was very impressed with what I had done.  He finally told me, "if you had said 'hi' to me in passing I would have not had any idea who you were, you look so different now."       As to the doctor himself, it looked like he had put on a few pounds since our last meeting and not of the muscle kind.      Maybe he'll have a use for WLS himself in a few years ..
