fighting old demons
Hello Steve
I believe that no matter where I eat I can order something to eat that wont make me feel guilty. I do stick to protien first than some vegies and try my hardest for only complex carbs. At taco bell I order the zesty border fresco chicken bowl no rice. Check it out it has low fat and high protien content and if you lose the rice it lowers the simple carbs to almost nothing. Almost every where you go has a chicken salad jus****ch the dressing. I believe that you have to spend time the day before planning you meals for the next day. It is when I dont do this I get into trouble with the fast food monsters!
Stress and money problems will always be there for me "unless I win the lotto!" I just choose not to feel bad about the food I am putting in my mouth also.
Hang in there and as they say this too will pass. I hope this helps,
Derrick

The stall:
Outside of your hourly visits to Taco Bell, are you doing everything else right? 80-100g protein daily, multi-vite, iron, b-12, exercise, water, etc...? If you are, and the "crap food" isn't a regular thing, you might be just stalling. Cut out the crap religiously for a week and see if you don't get back on schedule.
The learning:
I found it interesting that you said you had learned that you could eat [x]. Well. If it were possible, we'd all unlearn things like that. I wish I didn't know that one Recees peanut butter cup was ok, but two made me sick. Try learning something over the top of it.
I can eat tacos and nachos ---> I can resist tacos and nachos.
It's only one verb. If those are something that you REALLY enjoy, make them worth while. Tell yourself you can eat a taco if you RUN to the border, or bike, or w/e.
Most importantly, though, don't berate yourself for having eaten something. Food has controlled you long enough. Now it's time to move on (hard), change your choices (harder) and forgive yourself (hardest).
I'm glad you posted.

Steve, I understand what you're going through. Funny thing talking about Taco Bell (mexican food). Right after surgery, I found one of the "safe" foods was the refried beans. Now, when I want mexican, I like to eat "burrito innards". What I do (even Taco Bell will do it for you) is ask for a beef & bean burrito without the tortilla (I know it sounds weird but it's still very good). That way you shave off a lot of carbs and still get in your protien. I'm sure you can get a taco without the shell (it's the shell that has most of the bad stuff). I hope this little bit of info helps.
IMHO, you're screwing yourself.
There's no way I would return to anything fried or carb-laden. If I did, I'd just be committing slow suicide.
The Wendy's chili, on rare occasions, is good. But otherwise, make this your chance to use the WLS tool and break the old habits and stay with a healthy eating plan for the rest of your life.
That's what I must do. Can't speak for others, but I never, ever want to be unhealthy and obese again once this weight is off!
