Lactose Intolerance - Ques.

Before my surgery, I was not lactose intolerant. Since my WLS, I really think I am. (squirts!!) Since whey is a derivitive of milk.....could whey protein powder cause me the runs?? And what are the symptoms of lactose intolerance?? Thanks guys for any help!!

Anything is possible is what I found. I would get nausea and get the screamers the next day.
I went to Land O Lakes Lactose free for a while then tried 2%. I'm ok with a little in the am and a litle at night.

It actually could be the fact that food is digesting faster in your pouch also. You might try NECTAR by Syntrax. It is a non lactose whey based protein. It is a peach flavor and really good. There are others that don't have milk based in them also

I had this problem for the first 9 mos post RNY.  Then, it suddenly went away.  In the meantime, I used soy based protein shakes.  They are grittier than the whey shakes and don't taste as well.

Someone posted that the Syntrax products are non-lactose whey products.  I looked at their labels and they don't claim that.  I'd be careful of any whey products.  Remember the old nursery rhyme about Little Miss Tuffet and the curds and whey?  When raw milk is processed, the curds are used to make cheese and the whey is what's used for milk products.  Even if you are lactose intollerant, you can probably still have cheese.  I was so back with my lactose intolerance that using Lactaid didn't even help.  Like I've said before, luckily, that condition went away in time.

I've been LI since I was a teen, and yes whey can cause issues. Even the whey products that say lactose free cause me terrible gas. So I use an egg protein powder, there are several brands out there that taste ok.
