Greetings -- Newbie Intro
I guess your first question is, does this guy belong in the Man Cave?
Here are my guy credentials:
Married to the same woman for 30 years (as of this month), and have two teenage sons who voluntarily talk to me and haven't spent any time in prison.
Even though my job is thoroughly white collar, I've built three boats, built a deck on my house, and once rebuilt the engine in my car.
I'm a good photographer, love movies, watch college football on television, and can only cook when I'm outdoors. I've been a Boy Scout Asst. Scoutmaster for eight years.
I was thin as a kid, up until my early 20s, and I still don't think of myself as fat, even though my gut says otherwise. After gaining 3-4 pounds per year for 30 years, I finally topped out at 332 and a BMI of 41. When my knees started hurting last fall I started looking into weight loss options. I already had OSA, hypertension, and GERD, but the idea of not being able to walk anymore is what really scared me.
I was banded this last Monday, and am impatiently waiting out the post-op recovery period so I can get back to my life.
I'm glad I found the Cave here -- most other help groups are all women (as you know) and as much as I love them all, I know how much better I do when I have other men to help hold me accountable.
Nice to meet you.
Rick

To belong in this forum, all you have to be is an obese man or a formerly obese man who has had WLS. Like you, I was thin until I was in my 20s but I gained more weight after that than you did. My high weight was 571 and I weigh 365 now. I don't have any children, but I've been married for almost 34 years to the same woman.
