The "B" word

Now that wer are in the dog days of summer and I am almost 11 months out, regular beer drinking has become a part of my life again.  Obviously this is not good.  I have noticed the weight loss has slowed err practically stopped in the past 2-3 weeks and my appetite has increased as well.  I am still trying to eat the right things and not snack, but add beer into the equation and the formula still stays the same.  Calories in-Calories out=weight loss or increase.  It doesn't help matters that it has been slow as heck at work and I have gotten off early many days during the week.  Sometimes I go ride my bike but other times I sit near the pool nursing a beer.  :D  Anyone else been here, done that?

Beer  = carbs for me

Drop the beer and get in the pool n start swimming. Time to get back on track. I bet if you drop the beer for a week you'll start losing.

Good Luck.

I drank my first post-op beer at a wedding a couple of weeks ago. The first one was fine, but the second one made my stomach hurt. That's probably a good thing for me. We've all spent to much time, money, and pain to go back to old habits that easily. Grab a bottle of water and pretend.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

Sounds like you know the problem AND the solution. Beer is just one more junk food that gives us unwanted calories and tears us down back to what we were.

I agree with the others, dump out the beer and jump in the pool.
On another note, we ought to organize the men in this area (Chico) and go do something adventerous. It's good to see a local on in the locker room!

Rocco, not only have you broken the high carb/high calorie rule, you've also broken another:  no carbonated drinks.  Last time I had a beer, they were carbonated right??  Be good to yourself and stop.  Not preaching, just adding my 2 cents.

Good luck and be well.

The no carbonation rule was only for the first six months after surgery in my program.  Whatever, I knew I would get the responses I got on here.  No one else drinks beer?  Riiiight. hahaha.

I quit about a year ago. Even just drinking one was making me feel bad.

If you don't want to quit, you might try some of the carb cycling diets, like the Natural Hormonal Enhancement (insulin primarily being the hormone which is decreased which enhances the others). Or, the Fat Burning Diet system by Jay Robb. Then you can have your beer, even quite a lot of it 1-2 days a week.

Watch the bingeing though...

Best Wishes,

Dave

I do enjoy a beer from time to time. More so lately with a busy summer schedule of BBQ, ballgames, etc...I have switched to Becks Premium Ultra beer. (here's the commercial) It tastes great, same alcohol percentage as reg. beer, but only 64 cals & 3.9 grms of carbs per 12 0z bottle. I limit myself to 4 bottles per event, but usually don't drink that much. The problem is not so much the beer but what happens with the beer buzz. I tend to eat more. Thats when the weight starts creeping back. It's not the beer. It's the snacks, munchies that go with the beer. So enjoy a couple of pops now and again but leave the snacks alone. All the best.

I hear ya about the low carb beer.  I only have a few beers a week, but I am a beer drinker for taste, not for the alcohol or carbs.  My first few beers last winter, I would leave open in the fridge all day so all of the carbonation would go out of them and they would still be cold, but that was real tough.  I mean, not even worth it.  So when spring came around I would have one now and again and sip it slowly.  Unfortunately my favorite beer is probably the highest carb count beer on the market (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale).  I don't know how people drink those tasteless beers that have ruled the marketplace for years (Coors, Miller, Budweiser).  Gross.  I guess I could try Becks ultra, since I haven't yet.  I do like the Michelob ultra for what it is, I mean like I said I enjoy the flavor of a good stout ale or lager.  But they are definitely not worth the carbs nor the munchies like you said.

See boys, a nice non-judgemental comment from Jay makes me see the light.  So much more pleasant, understanding and informative.
