No Bowel prep
Sure (although we have the same surgeon!)
The only orders (aside from no eating/drinking after midnight) were to have your "non-liquid" meal early on the day before surgery, and reserve the liquid meals for later that day.
I've never understood why some surgeons require a bowel prep; it's not that they're operating anywhere in the vicinity of the colon, afterall. My understanding is that normal peristalsis, along with the two-week pre-op diet, should ensure that the areas where the surgeon will be operating are sufficiently clean by the day-of-surgery.

Since we are talking
I did not have a bowel prep...thank you...but there are several reasone to and not to...
1 you might poop on the table...this applies more to quadraplegics that most of us folks.....y'all don;t wanna know any more about that...
2-a doc might be trying to make room...shrink liver...empty colon...
3-some time it takes a while for aprastolic action to return...so if there is nothing there...therre is nothing to get stuck...
and it just depends on how you doc does the operation..his comfort level....
just thought i'd drop a deuce in here

Some docs believe it causes electrolyte imbalances. A lesser degree than that would be weakness, which might also be a consideration. Just make sure you don't cheat and eat - don't want any cheeseburgers rollin' around inside the abdominal cavity!
I had a course of antibiotics several days before. I thought that was weird. But they're big on those here in Japan.
Best Wishes,
Dave
Its just not something all surgeons require.
I was given a large meal in the hospital the night before surgery and took nothing to clear me out. I asked about it but was just told to go ahead and have a nice meal.
