To eat, or not to eat (yeah I have a question!)
OK guys,
First off, I wanted to go over my meals from yesterday to see if you have any input...
Breakfast - 8oz Syntrex in water (23g protein)
Snack - 1 pc Oscar Mayer Turkey bacon (2g protein)
Lunch 1/2 Foster Farms Hot Italian turkey sausage (skin removed) (7g protein)
Snack - Frigo light Mozzerella String Cheese (8g protein)
Dinner - Home made turkey chili with chili beans, kidney beans & mushrooms (approx 13g protein)
Snack 4oz Body Fortress whey protein (yuck!) in 4oz of soy milk (30g protein)
Overall, I feel my diet has been going much better. I picked up some of that Syntrex Fuzzy Navel protein powder to add to my water and I'm able to get my protein in!
My question is, what abou****ermelon? I LOVE WATERMELON! I had a few pieces at a barbeque (only ate that and some grilled chicken) but after eating it, I realized how much I will miss it if I dont have my "summer's worth".
Should I just stay away from it or ?
Thanks again in advance for your input!

I still don't see enough protein. I would add another shake. I think it will add as a fat burner. MY OPINION ONLY.
Can you do some chair exercises. Sit in a hardback chair and just move your legs out in front of you and back. Simulate walking.
I did watermelon but it went right through me. Caused big D issues plus the sugar in it even natural sugar was a trigger food that made me want more. But this is me not you. All I can say is try a little and guage how it makes you crave. If you find yourself eating a lot then it isn[t a good thing.
Watermelon is still a good tool for me to help flush
Doncha love the Fuzzy Navel. Have you tried the Peach and Orange yet? Let us know.

Ditto on adding some green stuff. I love watermelon as well and have been able to have some without any real issues, but be careful. It is heavy with sugar and may or may not agree with you and it doesn't give you any protein which you really need right now so don't let it take the place of something you already eat. Just eat it as a special treat if you find that you can tolerate it - its really more of a liquid than a food. Also a couple of things that I get lots of protein from with minimal carbs and fats are low fat cottage cheese and greek yogurt. I use these, especially for breakfast to get the protein up and keep the fats down that go along with many other protein sources. I try to get 80 to 120 grams of protein per day and these just help me do it.

83g of protein is great - period. You are doing good my friend. Make sure you are getting your multivitamin in everyday as well, in addition to the protein. As far as watermelon goes - I eat the **** out of watermelon like it is nobody business. My family and I go through at least 2-3 seedless watermelons a week. I grew up on this stuff in the south. I cut up a seedless watermelon every two days and we eat it out of a big bowl in the refrigerator. It is a great snack for the kids and I love it because of all the fluids I get from it. After I work out at the gym or do yardwork, this is a great cold treat for me. The natural sugars cause me no problems at all - my surgeon says those kinds are okay - it is the refined sugars in sodas, breads, and sweets that are the downfall for most people. Another positive is that the watermelon is very low in calories. Good luck with your choices. Being only about a month out - you are probably a little more limited on choices that I am at this point in my journey (I am 5 months out and can have basically anything). Make sure you are following your programs guidelines religiously - it makes all the difference in the world as you progress forward.

Syntrex Nectar protein powder is great stuff. When I got tired of the chocolate protein powder, I would rotate in Nectar fruit flavored protein. I'd add in a banana or some other fresh fruit, then stick blend in some ice to make a smoothie. Awesome.
Also, good to see you eating "homemade turkey chili." Most canned or processed foods are frickin' worthless nutritionally, if not unhealthy. Also, nice touch with the turkey vs. beef as turkey is higher in protein and has less fat. Beans are excellent.
Not a big fan of sausage from a nutritional perspective, but if you can stand the taste, turkey sausage is better than others. I agree with Brian that if your doctor/nut allows it, pump up the fruits and veggies. Only a month post-WLS, so "be kind to your pouch."
Watermelons are an excellent source of vitamins A, C, and B6. They are also a great source of potassium, and low in sodium. 9 grams of sugar per cup (which ain't much melon given the water content) so berries are probably a better choice from a fruit perspective.
Nice job. You can really tell you're thinking about what you're eating!!

Thanks for all the input guys... I am working on getting another shake in, but I honestly dont know how the hell you guys drink the water you do and still get in everything else! I honestly try to sip all the time, but with the "5 minutes before" and the "30 minutes after" eating rule, **** I cant figure out the water consumption...
I keep trying tho but it feels like I'm stretching my pouch when I do...

The water and the protein get easier over time. As you heal, you begin to drink more normally, rather than sip. Also, as you heal, and according to the doc's program, your portion sizes increase as well as the variety of foods. This makes the protein much easier to get also. I think you are doing great and your concerns are very normal. Give it time, follow the program and I think you will get all the water and protein you need over time.
Great job.
