Introducing myself, a bit too long, pre-op

For what it's worth, I faced a similiar issue with insurance.
My weight never quite qualified me for sugery and I struggled trying to lose weight for a long time.  I decided finally that I didn't want to spend any more of my limited years struggling before I did something about it.

I'm fortunate, I guess, that I could do self pay so I did. I am so happy that I did.   I am 44 years old and I haven't been overweight for all my life - just about 7 years but it's extremely rare that anyone *****aches 100 lbs overwieght is ever successful in losing and keeping the weight off for long.

Do what feel right to you but I can say, two years out, that having the surgery gave me the tool I needed to get the weight off.

I hope it will help me over the upcoming years to keep the weight off.  It won't solve all of your problems with food but it can help if you're willing to work.

I really appreciate all of your thoughts and comments.

I seem to be on a self sabatogue mode for the past week.  i'm keeping up my exercise, at least 60 minutes of cardio per most days, but on the way home today I had a terrible binge of eating.  I really don't know why.  I didn't do that for three months, now I do it again.  Well tomorow is another day and I'll pick up on the other side.

I too have a low BMI - 36. But also have the co-morbidities. I have to say since being considered for surgery, I haven't even tried to lose weight. Kind of a relief since I too struggled all my adult life. As long as my BMI is 36 - they can't turn me away.

Anyway, welcome aboard.

Henry:

I know how you feel about the insurance run around.  I got the same thing, and like others who have posted here, was lucky enough to be in a position to pay out of pocket for the lap band.  I took some of my children's college savings fund to pay for it; figured if I ate myself to death that what I had saved up wouldn't do them much good!  Deciding to have lap band surgery was about the best thing I ever did for myself, I just wish I had done it sooner.
Hang in there and drop by anytime with questions.

Hi

First, you have to do what you have to do.  Make no excuses for that.  Also,  I would enlist the help of your PCP, if you have a supportive one.  His letters and notes can be very valuable in the decision process.  He will help you to be successful if he is a decent doctor.  Your weight history, co-morbibities, and mental health through all of this can be very important.

My PCP worked closely with the surgeon in the beginning to keep the process on track because he was so happy I decided to help resolve this health issue.

Stay in touch here- everyone wants for you what you want for yourself.
