Just home today from hospital after having open RNYon the 5th. I was doing well at the hospital I could get out of bed and move when I wanted. Here at home different story I am having a heck of a time getting out of bed and off the couch. My doctor has all his open pianents where a girdle for six weeks to support the surgery site from hernias. so mobility is limited by the girdle and the incision. any help on getting off the bed or the coach would be a good thing.

thanks

Congrats and welcome home.

I spent weeks sleeping in a recliner after I had an open abdominal surgery.   It was really a matter of having a pillow to hug and something to push off on when I tried to stand up.

Luckily my RnY was done Lap.

Good luck with your recovery.

Scott

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

Hey Bill,
Congrats on your surgery.   I had open rny in March.  I spent most of my time in a recliner.  Slept in it for about 4 weeks.   It really made it much easier to get leverage to get up and help keep the pressure off of my incision.  After about a week, I started feeling significant improvement each day.   Hang tough and time will pass.   Drink your fluids and walk as much as you can.   Best wishes.
Steve

by the way,  where is painesville? I am an old buckeye transplanted to Arkansas.

Same here with the recliner.  I spent the first couple of months sleeping on mine until I was able to lay flat comfortably in bed.  By then, I was so used to sleeping in the recliner that I had a hard time getting used to the bed again.  I would stay away from lying flat on anything for awhile if I were you.  It will get better, just get off your ass as much as possible.  Its the best way to heal and keep yourself active under the cir****tances.  Take care and be well.  Good luck.

I did not have a recliner. I hugged a pillow a lot. And I do mean a lot. Take it slow and easy getting up. It might help to breathe out when pushing off the bed,

Your name is a street term for weed (snicklefritz that is) I think that's hilarious! And when I had my RNY it was done lap and I, too, had to sleep in a recliner. Well I use the term "sleep" very very lightly haha. There wasn't much/if any sleep for the first 72 hours after surgery. But you can't go by me, I'm 5 months post-op and I still don't sleep well so maybe you'll have a better go of it. You just don't want to do anything too quickly just take slow, pointed movements and I think you'll manage.

Hey Bill,

Congrats on making to the loser's bench.  I should be right behind you, looking at an Oct 28th surgery date with Dr. SonPal.  Hope everything goes smoothly and I'm sure I'll be using you as my crutch as to what to expect.

Take care,
Todd
