My hair has thinned out on top considerably in the last 4-5 months. I would guess that I have a half to a third of the hair on top that I had pre-op. Maybe it's just natural aging, but the fact is that the hair loss has conincided with the drastic weight loss. It has also become somewhat unmanageable. For the last 25 years I've just gotten out of the shower and combed it straight back and let it dry and it fell nicely with a part somewhere or another, didn't really matter to me. Now I get out of the shower and comb it straight back and when it dries I look like friggin Albert Einstein on a bad hair day. Caps may become more important to me in the future.

My hair started falling out around 3 months after surgery. My hair is still falling out. I just might decide to go Mr Clean

The nice thing about going bald at age 25 is that I didn't need to worry about losing hair at age 52 after my RNY!!

Hey Doc,

I lost a bunch of hair a couple months post-WLS and my nut told me it was normal given what my body was going through. She said not to worry since, based upon her experience with both men and women, the hair would come back. She was right.

She suggested that I up my protein. Here's why (excerpt from WebMD)...."Hair is made up of a form of protein, the same material that is found in fingernails and toenails. Everyone, regardless of age, should eat an adequate amount of protein to maintain normal hair production."

For me it was a 4-5 months post op when  I lost a ton of hair.  IT has since stopped and I seem to be back to normal, which isn't all that much.

Mine started thinning out at about six to eight months. I am now about 20 months out and it has came back, but still not quite as thick as before. I started with extra Biotin and B12 as well as regular vitamins.

I'm 4 months out and thought that once I passed month 3 I was safe. Wrong. It's now starting to thin out on the sides, and my bald patch on the top is getting larger. But thanks to weekends spent at the beach, my head has a nice tan

Mine started falling out in huge handfuls at around 3 months.

I'm almost at 6 months now and its still falling out, though I'm losing slight less than before.

I hope it does stop soon, my giant head is going to look really stupid with 3 hairs on it.
