Books on wls
George, I haven't read any, so I don't have any recommendations. I went to Amazon and searched on books using "bariatric" and found a lot of hits, including "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies." Strangely, I find the Dummies books are generally pretty good introductions to whatever their subject is. Good luck.

I read "The Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients" by Colleen M. Cook. Our WLS center's post-op classes are based around her philosophies. You ought to check it out. You can probably pick up a copy at amazon or half.com, or try asking around your local support network.
She discusses six habits:
1. Accountability
2. Portion Control
3. Nutrition
4. Fluid Intake
5. Regular Exercise
6. Vitamins and Supplements
The editorials were pretty fem-centric, as is most of the stuff in the WLS world, but the book itself was worth the read. In fact...I ought ask to borrow it and read it again.

Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies comes to mind. Full of very sound, useful information. Written by a doc in my group that did Al Roker's surgery. Susan Maria's book also gave me a good idea what she went through both before and after surgery. Ali's daughters book was not that helpful and was geared more to Lap Band.

I really want to thank all of you guys for the info. In the next couple of weeks I'm going to Detroit MI and I want to stock up on books, including on WLS. With our dollar being at par with yours it will be insane to buy anything here at prices that are 30% to 50% more than across the border. Especially when you see "US $16.99 Canada $36.99" makes ya sick.
Thanx again
George
