The Last Supper

I'm scheduled to have my lap band Sept 15th. The problem I am having is my family keeps insisting on bringing me out to dinner to all the places that got me to this size in the first place.
I know I wont be able to have most of these things after the 15th and would love to have them one last time.
However, I feel guilty afterwards. Did anyone else have this problem? If so how did you handle it.

Man there's alot of opinions on last suppers here so beware. Myself I enjoyed a last supper with friends and family and did not feel guilty. If you decide your going to have one, stick to the plan after surgery or you will fail.  Good luck to you on your WLS journey.

Just be carefull with last suppers. I gained 12 pounds from all the last supper's that well meaning friends and family insisted on.

Yeah, my family had the same reaction when I had my lap-RNY five months ago.
For me, the journey began there with a small step: Thanks, but no. I guess I decided I would not take a vacation from my pre-op diet and undo the work I had begun in my brain.
I'd already said adios to the old way of emotional eating and did not want to make the post-op even harder (mentally, at least) by backsliding.

I remember my wife made her own version of sauerbraten (German pot roast) along with red cabbage and potatoes.  It wasn't that it was loaded with fats rather it was the type meal I knew I wouldn't be able to have for a very long time.  You don't have to go out trying to stuff yourself silly.  I suggest picking a special mean and either have it at home or have it out.  For a lot of you that may be barbeque ribs and others may want a nice piece of steak.  Choose well.

Craig,
The notion of-
"I know I won’t be able to have most of these things after the 15th
and would love to have them one last time."

I know it 'Feels' like that is true,
But, It's total Bullsh*t.
At 5 years+ Post-op?
There's hardly anything I can't eat.
The list of foods that are "off the List"
Usually means they are "Off the List"
early on while losing.
If you ask most who are at Goal and maintaining?
There's probably Nothing that qualified as
the "One Last Time" food.

If the info you are reading is mostly from those
who are newly post-op,
You can certainly get the impression that some foods
will be gone forever.
BUT, it really not the case at all, for MOST.

Have the Greatest on the 15th!
Lose as much as you can till then.
The surgery will be easier,
The recovery will be easier,
You'll reach weight goals sooner, etc...
And, all of those "Forbidden Foods?"
They taste a hell of a lot better
eaten while wearing a medium sized shirt!
Best Wishes-
Dx

Craig,

I decided to stick with the pre-op plan. my surgeon had me on all liquids for 3 1/2 weeks prior to surgery.

But you know what? You're having a life changing surgery, you're not dieing. You make it sound like the last supper before you get executed.

You'll be able to eat all this food eventually but just in smaller portions. But it will take some time. I'm about a year and a half out from my lapband  (and down 108 lbs) and I can eat anything that I could eat before surgery except  in much smaller portions.

Try to stick with your plan now and you will be back at those resturants hopefully making better food choices and smaller portions.

Best of luck with you upcomming surgery and your food choices.

I followed my pre-op diet failry welll, but we did go out a couple of nights before my RNY to a buffett style resturant and enjoyed a few foods I knew that I wouldn't be able to enjoy for a while.  I, however, have to agree with DX also, it's not that you won't EVER be able to eat the things you enjoy again, at just over 5 months out (yes months) I can eat almost anything I want, just a WHOLE LOT LESS of it.  And you know what?  A whole lot less is just fine with me these days.  I'd say do it if you want to, but don't if it's going to bother you or rack you with guilt after the fact.
