Cask Beer question
Hello Gents......I had a question for those of you who are fond of beer......Im one month out from RNY.....and am looking forward to enjoying a pint again someday. Now the beer I lean toward is Non-carbonated cask beer.....rather flat usually served around 50-55 degrees......My question is for those of you who indulge in such ventures how long did you wait......I am in no hurry what so ever, just like to get feedback from others....Thanks in advance........Eric
I tried a beer at appox 5 months out. It wasn't even flat, just Sam Adams in a bottle. I just sipped it slowly so that the carbonation wasn't a big part of the experience.
The few times I've tried alcohol post-op, I found I don't really care for it. I don't seem to get drunk easily (prob since I drink so little), but it sort of does a number on me, as if I feel a mild hangover coming on within 30 min to an hour after I drink, and when that happens I also tend to feel sleepy (not drunk, just very tired.) Stronger drinks like wine or (this weekend) sake also tend to irritate my pouch. I don't react violently, it's just a vague feeling of mild discomfort.
I think it's the kind of thing you have to experience for yourself. Best to try it at home first so that if it doesn't agree with you, you'll be in a comfortable place.

I think I went about a year for beer. Had some wine about 3-4 months out I think.
Oddly enough, I don't really care for beer much anymore. Once in a while I will have some, but I drink wine pretty regularly.
I do find that there is no consistent amount of wine or alchohol I can tolerate which is troubling. Sometimes a glass of wine will knock my block off, other times I can have a few glasses and am fine. I do also find that if I have too much, the hangovers are much worse.

I'm about 9 months out and had my first beers about a month ago at a wedding. It was keg beer, carbonated and about 35 degrees. The first one was wonderful, the second one kinda hurt my stomach. I didn't have any more. No buzz whatsoever from two beers.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
