Scales are falling (no actually the opposite)

So, when I get home from surgery, I weighed myself on the old scale we had and saw that I was at 282  (surgury weight @300lbs).  I was pumped.  Since then, I have gotten to 264 on that old scale.  I noticed though that as I stood on it, the weight would fluctuate by a few pounds.  I decided to go buy a new one.  Well,  I may be the first to have gained 8 lbs during the second week after surgery, but I went up to 274.  Crap.

I will have to wait until my follow up to get a true weight, who knows how much  I way.

I was 299 at the time of surgery. Walking around in the hospital I jumped on the scale and it said 302. Next time I weighed, I was home and using an old Tanita scale we had. It said 287. This was like 5 days postop. I immediately went online and ordered a new Tanita scale. The new one hasn't arrived yet, but today I was able to confirm the weight I saw on the old scale, 279, by comparing it to one of the doctor balance-weight scales. It's working! Still, I'm psyched about the new scale. It will check % body fat, which I think is going to be a better measure of progress.

The biggest psychological boost I ever got was to purchase a scale that measured in tenths of a pound.  I'm pretty sure the scale isn't very accurate beyond 0.2 pounds, but that extra decimal point really helps my mood.  (As did trading a crowded spring-loaded analog dial for a digital display; when I used to peek down and squint at the dial, my weight would change!)

These %body_fat scales, except for the most expensive models, aren't very accurate in any absolute sense, though they're probably OK in describing a trend.

If you are concerned with daily fluctuations with your weight, you should just weigh yourself once a week.

Scales are crap. I can't tell you how many times I get different readings off the same scale at the same moment! Get your % body fat tested, then do it again in a few months. Also, go by the scale at your surgeon's office. If they're like mine, they don't mind you coming in and using it, so long as you're not obsessing.

If you weigh, do it once a week at most.

Use to drive me crazy. I thought digital scales would be give me the same weight every time I got on the scales, but the first three pair I bought sucked. I finally bought a pair based on what some one told me here and I love them, I get the same weight every time. TANITA HD-351. I have had mine for over two years and still work great. They cost a more than the other three I bought at wal-mart, but they would have been cheaper in the long run. I paid $60 for mine at amazon.com , I think they were on sale. Last time I checked I think they were around $75 now.

Although I do weigh every day now, I only record my weight in my monthly planner once a week. I started out trying to stay off the scale. I can chart my loss from the day of surgery. There were times where I thought I was going no where, but when I looked at it in my planner I could see steady progress.

Did you calibrate the new scale? Is it in the same place? Is it on carpet? Can you tell I was an obsessive weigher. I only weigh when I go to the dr office now. I think I need to be in a 12 step program called Weigher's Anon

I am powerless over my scale

Iwould use the dr office as the official weight
