Upper GI pain
Hey, guys. I need some help. I had gastric bypass back in March and have done remarkably well with it (down 100 lbs). My exercise has been wanting, though, so today, I thought I would remedy that. I went to the gym, walk/ran and worked out with weights for about 45 mins. After a few hours of being home, I started having some severe upper GI pains while I was eating. The pains felt a lot like my upper abs were cramping but it was enough to cause me to throw up part of my meal. The cramping has subsided somewhat. Right now it feels like my muscles are just sore, but if I turn a certain way, I will get the pain again. I guess I'm just nervous if I have developed some sort of hernia or leak or if this is just my "dues" I have to pay for returning back to the gym after an absence. Has anyone experienced something like this before in relation to a leak or hernia or some other abnormality that can come along at about 6 months that I've not thought of? Thanks for your time!
David

David,
It didn't feel like it was something stuck in your pouch?
If it was that, I'd "Guess" it could be a stricture.....
But, if pain that "felt a lot like my upper abs were cramping..."
It could be an internal hernia.
Call your doc in the morning and get their opinion.
I a few weeks back I had similar and it was diagnosed
As a "Peterson's Hernia."
Mine resulted in an intestinal blockage
That almost resulted in Emergency Surgery.
A somewhat rare but Serious issue
That recently took the life of a long time OH member on the grads board.
A few folks on QuixoticWLS have had similar and had it fixed
With surgery.
Dave (in Japan) here had such as well.

(he and Dave are Both at Quix)
Call your doc.
It's not common, but it happens particularly among those
Who have lost a large amont of internal excess fat tissue.
I had a few early episodes and they also passed,
And each time they felt like maybe a pulled muscle
Or small cramp that passed but then -
"if I turn a certain way, I will get the pain again."
When I read that I thought- "Wow- deja vu."
Have it checked and look into "Peterson's Hernia" or "Peterson's Cavity."
Dana Barr on Quix had the exact same problem and it took
Took almost 4 years to get a diagnosis.....

Twisted bowel...It can "come and go" so it's a hard one to find...
I hope it is just a pulled ab muscle, and that may be it...
But just in case.... Don't screw around.
Best Wishes-

Doesn't sound to me like a "dues" kind of thing so I would have it checked out since it could be a hernia. If it is, it'll only get worse if you keep lifting. I'd have the WL doc check it out and tell him you've begun an exercise program whi*****ludes some weight lifting and get his A-OK.
Let us know how it turns out since beginning an exercise program after years of lethargy is a major health issue for all of us.
Best of luck, David.

Thank you all for your advice. I talked to the doctor this afternoon. He thought that it was probably some sort of cramp, however, he is sending me to have a CT scan done the end of this week. He said that he sewed me up pretty good, but that given the rapid weightloss, the possibility of an interal hernia is there. I will certainly let you all know more as I do. Again, thank you!
