though you may be awake when it is removed

I had one inserted about 4 hours post op as the anesthesia relaxed whatever muscle it is that opens the floodgates and lets you **** so much that it wouldn't open. It wasn't Joseph Mengele horrible or anything like that, but it was the least pleasant thing that I've had done lately. I had it in for another 36 hours. I'd do it again if it meant getting my life back though.

PS: the nurse that put it in and took it out was not hitable.

Waking up with it and walking around with it for a day and then having it removed were the worse parts of the whole affair for me. That said, it's nothing you can't handle.

Ask your surgeon. I never had one my surgeon didn't believe it was necessary nor did Bamabob. So check with your guy. I did have one later due to another problem I was awake going and coming no anesthetic. C'ya Bob

Honestly what happened to me.  Yes, it is put in while your under.  It is usually taken out during the recovery room or later.  I wasn't able to urinate after the surgery.  They took it out and put it back in maybe three times.  Worst part of my WLS.  I had to go home with a catheter and urine bag for one week.  Wasn't able to walk real good because of that.  Went to a urologist after a week.  He filled up my bladder with warm water through the cathater.  Was able to pee after that...Thank God!!  Very small percentage of men and women have this problem after surgery.  Not really to worry, but don't freak out if you can't pee right away...It can happen and will be taken care of in due time.  I would have my surgery again in a heartbeat.  Brian

Good God Brian I bet your penis was so sore you'd have rather chopped it off! I know when I had my catheter in they didn't tape it down or anything and it was rubbing me raw so I told the nurse (it was a man) to tape it down because it was killing me. And holy **** when the nurse (different nurse, the next day) took it OUT I thought she had ripped something! Oh my god that hurt, I sat there in the bed for like 10 minutes wondering what the hell I'd gotten myself into. But in all seriousness it's not that severe, it just feels like they pull some long, dry snake out of you and then it burns when you pee for the first couple of times. Cheers!
