XPOST: 9 mo. progress report and breaking the 200# mark

A year ago today, I started filling out the paperwork to have WLS at Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.  I looked back at that form today: I was 315 pounds (I'm only 5'3"!)

9 months ago today, I had RNY surgery @ 290 pounds.

And today, I *finally* got below 200 pounds: 199.8 !!  I'm not even sure how long it's been since I've weighed so little; probably the early 1980s!  Whoo-hoo!!!

Sometimes I think the past few months have been like watching paint dry; on a day-to-day basis, the weight loss has been slow, constantly interrupted by stalls and fluctuations, and I've only recently been able to acknowledge the results when I look in the mirror.

As short as I am, I am still approx. 65 pounds away from achieving a "normal" BMI; whether I reach that isn't clear (30-odd years ago, when I hit 130 pounds -- for about a millisecond -- I looked skeletal), but I hope and expect that I'll continue to lose at least 30-40 more pounds, and then strive to maintain it.

For those of you who are recently post-op and discouraged by comparing your progress against others, who wonder whether you'll be the first exception to the success promised by these procedures: I was just like you.  Be patient!  Even modest progress, seemingly invisible as you're living it, accumulates as time passes, until one day you look back and can't refute how far you've come.  Keep this in mind along the way!

I'm glad to have shared the time-space continuum with you on this journey. Sub 2 is sub 2 buddy so I'm glad your celebrating and sharing. The BMI thingy says that I'll be obese until I hit 231 and overweight until I hit 189. I don't know that I'll ever see sub 2. But it'll be aok if I don't. I would like to get under 231 though just so I can say I'm not obese anymore. You've been an invaluable resourse to the guys on this board because of your medical and pharmacuetical knowledge. Please continue to hang out here even after you get to "normal".

Congrats man....I can honestly tell you I was discouraged at the end of year 1 when I didn't make it to goal (i had 300 lbs to lose). Mentally I was prepared for it, I knew it would happen, but emotionally I just wanted to be like the "skinny light weight *****es" who got to goal in 6 months...lol. Just keep chugging along and it will happen.

Congrats again on your success....

Great story and great numbers.  I don't think the doc's goals and current BMI really influence how we feel everyday.  You are happy with your progress and that give you confidence on a daily basis.  You look great and probably feel great.  That is a winning combination in anyone's formula.  I am glad to see you are back to posting fairly regularly.  I missed you scientific approach wheile you were down.

BtW, how is the hip coming along?  Hope you are doing well.
