Depression in men after wls

Sorry to intrude guys, but I was looking for some info on depression in men after wls.  I Googled it, and found pretty much what I expected - they talked about the estrogen in women's fat cells overloading the blood stream (yes, THAT'S why we're hormonal, lol!), but little, if any, info about men.  It makes sense to me that the same thing could happen to you guys who have lost a lot of weight.

Obviously, referring a friend to a therapist experienced in dealing with issues surrounding wls is key, but I'm curious to see if any of you have any insight to offer.

Thanks, and have a great weekend,

Tia

John;

There are at least 40 forums she could have posted this and gotten information she wanted.  This is a MEN'S forum. I think she has been treated extremely civilly here, We are so outnumbered on this board and we are very territorial.

I for one get tired of being of feeling like  we need to apologize for wanting our own space.

Haven't been on these boards much at all lately.  Too busy with my new lease on life.  Depression -- not at all, I've been busy and pretty happy lately.  Went through a spell in the spring where I was really sort of on a short fuse and snapped at people all of the time, just kind of "wired" feeling, I think that was the psycological response to all of the physiological changes and hormones, etc.  I don't feel that way anymore, back to my mild-mannered self overall.

Bull I NOW have a fuse that is I   I  that short. You look at me wrong and its GO TIME. It really doesn't matter if I know you or not though I am more tolerant of people I know. Its the fat elting away adn I usually catch myself before it gets too bad. I did warn everyoen pre-op so they understand. Buts its for real.
As for depression NONE  I am tickled pink with my decidion to have WLS. I can get a bit emotional at times, like whiney ***** emotional.

I get depressed when women post here on the men's board. Thanks in advance for respecting our wishes to keep it that way in the future. Have a great weekend.

Tia, I wish I knew of something definitive, but all I have is a hunch that depression after WLS, whether in men or women, has (in part) something to do with unreal expectations.  Some people think they'd be happy if they just had X amount of money, or could snag just the right spouse, or (this is something I struggle with) that losing weight will fix every single one of my problems. Even after WLS success, some patients might feel let down that they still have depression or anxiety.

Of course, I'm only talking about psychological and/or behavioral things here and not the  possible physiological reasons for depression after WLS (like the fat cells overloading the blood stream example you mentioned.) It's an important question, and please let me know if you find an answer.

PM is a good idea (unless it means "Pre-Menstrual," don't send out any of those!). PMing helps prevent  the explosions that often occur when women post here.

...Or you could all join Quixotic WLS, which has a private Men's Locker Room.
