Sample Schedule of vitamins from vitalady

The following is NOT medical advice but simply a schedule of vitamins that a
proximal rny patient follows to stay in good health. . . a general starting
point. Labs need to be checked and vitamins/minerals tweaked to assure that
all levels stay good.

B-12 blood levels should stay above 700 for wls patients.

This is one patient's schedule of vitamins during a day's time.
She also drinks 3 PURE WHEY protein shakes (30 gr. each) daily. You can also
write to Vitalady at vitalady@vitalady. com and give her the type of surgery
(lap band, rny, proximal or distal, amount of cm. bypassed, and surgeon's
name) and she will start you with an example of vitamins/minerals. These
will need tweaking each and every time you have labs as indicated by the
results of the labs. You should obtain a list of all labs each time and it's
a good idea to get a complete set prior to your wls so you know where you
are starting. Then, chart your labs and looks for places where
vitamins/minerals might need to be upped or reduced.

Hope this helps:

Good one VitaSnick!!  Here's what I take each and every day:

Upon rising - 2 B12 500mcg sublinguel dots (Rexall brand from Walmart)

An hour or a couple cups of coffee later -
1. 2 1000mg fish oil (Sam's version Member's Mark)
2. 1 600 mg calcium citrate (Sam's version Member's Mark)
3. 1 multivitamin (Sam's version Member's Mark)
4. 1 Vitamin B complex (Sam's version Member's Mark)

At lunch, I take 1 chewable iron with Vitamin C (Nature's plus from Vitamin Cottage)

When I get home from work, I take again -
1. 2 1000mg fish oil (Sam's version Member's Mark)
2. 1 600 mg calcium citrate (Sam's version Member's Mark)
3. 1 multivitamin (Sam's version Member's Mark)
4. 1 Vitamin B complex (Sam's version Member's Mark)

Before I go to bed, I take 1 chewable iron with Vitamin C (Nature's plus from Vitamin Cottage).

I lay out my daily supply of vitamins on a tray first thing each and every morning so if I get to the end of the day, I should have 1 iron left. When I go on the road, I throw a bunch of the vitamins in a zip lock bag since I don't like lugging the vitamin bottles with me.

Thanks Snick for your focus on vitamins. We have to be disciplined to get in a routine. Some bad things can happen to us if we don't take them each and every day.

FYI To anyone reading this post:

UPDCAL D is mislabeled. It does not have 500 mg of elemental calcium citrate. But much much much less. While they still maintain the labeling (FDA loophole etc) the reality is that if you take 500 mg dose per their label you are only getting about 120 mg of elemental calcium citrate. Which would be far less then the 2000 to 3000 mg that you should be taking per day.

Michelle has noted this on her site, and has posted this on the DS forum and WLS grad forum.
