Anyone have these changes?

I don't know if these are linked, or linked to WLS, but here goes.

Recently I can't hardly taste salt. Last night I made polenta for a family gathering and, according to my wife and others, they tasted like the dead sea. They were bland as anything to me...DEFINATELY not salty. Just to make sure, I tasted straight salt, and it was very muted.

Eggs used to be my total staple post wls. I would eat them ALL THE TIME. Now, starting about two weeks ago, I can't keep them down unless I eat only about half an egg, or if it's hard boiled.

Last week I had a drink of juice, which I do from time to time. Maybe it was on too empty of a stomach, or w/e, but it's the only thing I'd had outside of water for about two hours. I "prayed to the porceline god" for about 30 minutes, and went into a carb-coma, sending me to bed at about 7 pm.

My wife also thinks I should add that I've been moody...ok, more moody than normal.

Now, given all these things, I have also just gone back to work after a summer off. I'm a teacher. SOOOO...now I'm on a much more normal schedule, but standing (i.e. scholastic tap-dance) all day long.

no meds, vit/min the same.

Any ideas?

I've been eating a lot of eggs, but so far no problems like that. Occasionally I'll forget to chew chicken or pork well enough and I'll have to force a chunder (throw-up) to be able to sleep. Chicken hearts (or some other insides, maybe? Not sure what they were?) got me once. Bad nausea, but could have been due to poor chewing again.

My tastes changed like crazy post-WLS. Stuff I used to love, no more and vice versa. Eventually my tastes changed back to pretty much what they were prior to WLS although I think I've programmed my brain to "love" healthy foods and "despise" crap.

I'm 3 years out and will still vomit occassionally although I attribute it to woofing down my food. Other than that, I'd say my eating is pretty "normal.:

Same here with the taste buds. At about 8-9 months they came back. I can't eat sirloin because it still expands to much, but Prim Rib or Rib Eye is fine. Sometimes chicken breast are tough on me sometimes not. Good Luck

I know I still have more of a craving for the spicier things like salsa and peppers.

BTW salt cravings are one sign of low iron along with ice cravings etc.

Your tastes will change. Try using pepper or other spices

Here's what my nurse had to say from the surg: office.

Dear Jacob, Yes, you're normal! (If that was your overall question.) Let's start at the beginning to answer your questions:
The salt issue can be linked to vitamin deficiencies, how about if we draw some labs?
Eggs, yes they can be problematic from time to time. However, when nausea and vomiting are the problem we look for hidden sources of fat or sugar. You may find, and it sounds like you have already found, that sometimes you can tolerate fat and sugar, and sometimes you can't.
Same for the juice, sometimes you may be able to tolerate it, sometimes you can't. It's the sugar/fat that can get to you. The empty stomach makes sense, the sugar went directly into your small intestine, oops!
Moods, of course! Look at all your changes, what you have accomplished, and now your new goals. You react differently to your family, and they react differently to you. (As a male, how do you handle change?) Stress is a part of life..... period! Good stress, bad stress, Stress is stress. And along with all the changes you are going through related to your surgery, then life keeps on coming at you. How about a little counseling? Group therapy? You can look into counseling from your church, through the school, or Dr. Grant is doing the group work with men and women.
I'm glad you're taking your vitamins, you could still have a deficiency or two, especially if your electrolyte balance gets thrown off by vomiting. How much water, and how much protein? Correct answers are: 80-100 grams/day, and minimum of 64 ounces/daily.
Let me know what you would like to pursue, always good to hear from you!
