Hey guys.  Since surgery I have healed well and felt great.  So well, that I actually went back to work today after only 12 days out.  The problem is, I brought my lunch, 4oz of tuna ( not the first time I ate tuna since surgery)  well, I think I rushed it a little, and after 3 bites I felt pressure or pain in my pouch.  That past after 5 min, but i have been getting sharp shooting pains in my left shoulder and side.  I am a little worried, the pain in the shoulder is weird.  Any ideas?

Jay I know I sound like a broken record but I hope your journaling your day to day efforts.

Each time you eat and have any issue note it, example I ate Tuna felt pressure, got the foamies or got sick and think I might have not chewed well.

This really helps your WLS team if you might have a stricture. This way they have something other then your memory.

Twelve days out its unlikely you still have gas from surgery but is possible. Good Luck never hesitate to call your Surgeon, I received a call from a close friends wife this morning saying he died, he had chest pain and blew it off, I would rather be called a nuisance then a corpse!

Have to eat very slowly.  My surgeon recommended useing a baby spoon and take 20 bites.  You might be rushing the return to work too.  I have suggested when people think they are ready to return to work...Work 1 or 2 half days...4-5 hours, to see how they handle it.  Also know what the sign of a stricture are.  They happen in 10% of RNY patients.  It is a narrowing of the small intestine just below the pouch.  Go gett'em tiger.  Brian

I get that when I eat too fast. Happens with "drier" meats like chicken breasts or tuna (without the mayo or very little of it). Eat it a lot slower and you won't have the problem. Sometimes it can take a while for one bite to make it down to your pouch and you don't want another bite already coming down behind it before you even know if you're full yet. Take a bite and let it hit your pouch before even thinking about the next bite, especially with food that gets stuck like this (and you'll know which ones do after a few rounds of this).

For me, the foods that get stuck the most or cause the most pouch pain for me are chicken breasts and eggs. I almost always get pouch pain with eggs for some reason.
