IDGOMB Hump Day
After making all of my little adjustments to my tricycle, I thoroughly enjoyed it yesterday. I can now walk it easily along my porch, but it only takes me about 20-22 steps to go the length of the porch. Then, I have to make a K turn to go back the other way. It takes about 20 smaller steps to make that turn which is annoying. So, I thought I'd just take the trike down my driveway and use it either on the street ( I live on a circle which is almost as calm as a cul-de-sac ) or on the sidewalk. About half-way down the driveway I thought I better see if I could propel myself back up and I Almost fell over turning the trike--I have to learn to shift my weight uphill when turning on a hill. I was able to walk the trike back up the driveway from a standing position and I'm really glad that I finally took the pedals off. So, I'll just concentrate on using the front porch for a while.
Patience is one attribute that I've always had a hard time with. Now I must force myself to be patient as I slowly build up my strength. I do know that I can take the tricycle down to the end of the driveway and use it and then dismount and walk it back up the driveway. But, I think I'll force myself to exercise some patience as I exercise my body on my front porch. I'm feeling my leg muscles work without undue pressure on my knees. I've eliminated the groin pain I had by getting the seat to the right heigh. And, using the high rise bicycle handles has allowed me to lean forward without bending awkwardly.
My brother had told me that it usually takes him about 2 weeks to properly get adjusted to a new bicycle. He told me that so that I wouldn't get frustrated about using the tricycle. I'm glad that I listened to him because now the whole process is worth it. I advise anyone who is getting a new bike, trike, or scooter to give themselves time to adjust their equipment so they can be comfortable with it. This may include getting a new seat or different handlebars. Follow Boners advice about getting the proper sized bicycle. And, see if you can return the equipment in its original condition if you can't get used to it. Bob

It's raining like a cow ******' on a flat rock here in the desert today. It was raining when I got up at 5:30 this morning and hasn't let up since. So needless to say, the morning walk to work didn't happen, and it doesn't look like the evening walk home will happen either. So I may have to make friends with the elliptical after work today. I been meaning to put some time in on it anyway.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
Nice backup exercise plan there Fish with your "make friends with the elliptical" strategy.
I've never been able to get the hang of the elliptical since my balance / coordination is still dicked up from coming down from 500 pounds. It's amazing how uncoordinated I am now especially when I play basketball, stumblin' bumlin' and all.
By the way, I just signed up for a rec league basketball team and our first game is next Monday. Should give me a new avenue for a cardio workout running up and down the court that is if I don't fall down all the time.
Keep up the great fitness work, Fish!!
