Where are the bandmeisters?

Interesting article...

I will agree with everyone here that no tool is worth 2 cents if you don't use it correctly, and I think we can all agree that some tools get the same job done in a different way.  Its probably fair to say that which one is the best depends a lot on where you start your WLS journey.  I researched several different factors regarding RNY vs. Lapband:  the severity of the surgery/complication potential, the fact I had right at 100 lbs to lose (instead of more), cost (I am self-pay), recovery time (self-employed), etc. The fact I had not yet developed type II diabetes (I was borderline, though) or high blood pressure (again close, but not yet requiring medication) was also taken into consideration by me and my doctor in coming to a decision.  My doc does both surgeries and recommended the lap band in my case.  Should cir****tances ever warrant, RNY is an option I still have on the table.  But, that's nothing to worry about right now - its time to keep on keepin' on with weight loss!

One thing I can say for sure is that the "Losers Bench" here at OH is a vital part of my WLS journey so far, and I appreciate the support it provides "losers" like us.

I'm one of those "old guys" that disappeared from the board for a long time...and a banded brother.  Like everyone else I can only relate MY story and experience.  I set a goal to drop off 100 pounds by my first "surgiversary"....and made it by 1 day!  BUT...folks, when you read or hear, "any surgery is ONLY A TOOL"...listen up!

I think I failed to make  second goal, and in the last year instead of losing the last 40-50 I wanted...I've fallen back into my old habits and duh, what a surprise..I've put 30 back on!  I got myself back into the right mindset, started up a regular schedule with my adjustment appointments...and just my "luck", I'm one of the 7-9% that has experienced a "blow-out"!

I was self-pay back in 2006, not wanting to wait on my insurance company to toss one hurdle after another at me...and now I face the decision of having to possibly self-pay for the "revision", or the repair to the torn tubing!  There goes my motorcycle I guess.

In spite of all my experiences, I remain a big fan of the LAPBand.  IF you pay attention, IF you follow the rules, IF you don't become so darn determined to "out smart it".

This time, ( Oct 18th ) I will push myself into that membership at the new gym that just opened in our little town, I will push myself into finding some sort of support system, I will push myself into getting the same level of professional care for my head games as I did my belly...and this time I will win...no more "goal's"  just success.

Hey, hey Padre,

Sorry to hear about your troubles and, as you know, I wish you nothing but sucess in your new push towards a more healthy life. I have no question that you can do it brother! Maintenance is tough for everyone and only gets more difficult the further we get from our distant memories of our miserable lives when we were morbidly obese.

To me, that's the power of the locker room as it serves as a daily reminder to me the issues I used to confront being morbidly obese. I'm also inspired continously by the daily victories (FARTS) whereas my personal victories seem to be fewer and farther between.

Thanks for the post, Padre and keep in touch.

All my best,

Boner

Hey Jeff!! Back to Clinton, or ChamBana this time?? I would be happy to be part of your support team! My Wife just received her 'Band' 7 weeks ago, and had her first fill last week. Judy is doing quite nicely at the beginning of Her journey. It is going to be much more satisfying to be able to share our experiences together now. This is rekindling my fire to get the last 40# off and finally hit my long term goal. I am now nearly 161# down (From #389 to 231.6#) and on my way to 195#.

Semperfi and Jeff!

Glad to see you fellows back on here and on the band wagon.

Work that tool! (Hey that can be our new Men's Board slogan, how about it?!)

Work that TOOL!   Love the overtones.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Well Howdy back Semp!  Yeah, sticking with Rohrscheib but we're going to do surgery at Provena this time...no matter though, all I want is one that works again so I can get my butt back in the game!

I'd been doing so well...and you btw...freakin' amazing with 161 OFF!   You're already a poster child!

I'm staying in touch better this time, even electronic accountability is useful!  Plus, there's this thing with my wife for some reason insisting that if I'm putting another $4000 in my belly band, I better darn well use it!  women.
