Hi guys, just wondering how long till I can lift weights again after surgery..I'm having laproscopic rou en y (spelling?) Im basically wanting to build and workout my upper body but I know there is alot of grunting and muscle movement involved in weightlifting and I wouldn't want to hurt my pouch...so am I lookin at like 3 months? More/less? Any idea? thanks...

I had surgery on August   5th and have been lifting weights for a week now.  My surgeon cleared me after four weeks. Probably depends on what your doc says.

Hey Joe really need to check with you WLS Team mine didn't want me lifting anything heavier then 8lbs for 8 weeks, they say your very susceptible for hernia's at this point. On a side note I had dinner not far from you last night a buddy of mine lives in Linton, IN. good luck. C'ya Rocky Top

My doc said no lifting over 20 pounds for 6 weeks then I was cleared for any and all exercise including weightlifting. Like RockyTop suggested, just clear it with your doc. Best of luck and good to see you thinking about your exercising post-WLS now.

My Doc thought like Boner's and I could not lift over 20 pounds until I was 6 weeks post op.  At about 4 weeks post op I joined the Y and was doing about 45 minutes a day of cardio until I could start with the resistance training.

Life Rocky Top said, check with your surgeon, his/her opinion is really the only one you should follow.
