I haven't posted in a long long time but here's my question, I need to find a different type of protein that will not cause so much internal gas. I've been using EAS Protein power for the past 6-8 months and recently after taking a 2 scoop drink I get gas like crazy and its been really bothering me.

Is there any kind of protein mix that is:
1 - inexpensive, the EAS I buy at target for $25
2 - different flavors, maybe orange or fruit flavored
3 - when mixed up it doesn't bubble up or won't cause gas.

Thanks.

update - I guess Im looking for liquid protein or pill form, and not the shakes.

I take approx. 100 gr of protein a day with my diet. So liquid might be out since a 16 oz bottle would only last 2-3 days.

Howdy bud,
I have been buying my protein from GNC. Its there brand it comes in a 1,2 or 5lbs tub.. They do have many flavors of it. I dont get the gas from this, and seems to be the only thing my tummy can handle. They will take it back after its been opened if you don't like it as long as you keep the recipt. Just heads up the orange cream is bad....Hope this helps

I've had some minor problems with the protein/gas effect with powdered proteins early on after my surgery. It's one of the reasons I switched to the IDS New Whey protein "shots" that have 42 G in about a 3oz portion.

Unfortunately they aren't inexpensive. A dozen pre-mixed and packaged servings are about $29 by internet sources. If you buy enough you can get free shipping and no taxes tho. I've gotten them through both Vitacost.com and www.supplements.net.

Hope you find one that works well for you.

Sorry to tell you ....while there are pill forms of protein, you'd have to eat 100s of pills a day to get in anywhere near enough protein. They are terrible. You are much better off with protein bars, I personally like the atkins bars, but they are probably too high in fat for a proximal RNY patient (unless you were using them as a meal replacement...i eat them as a snack).

I have major issues with artificial sweetners and whey protein, which makes it EXTREMELY difficult to find a protein shake I can drink. The IDS whey protein vials are good,...but expensive, about 3 dollars a shot. The BEST protein I have found for me (aside from soy) is Healthy N Fit's Egg protein powder. It's 100 percent egg protein, and it is sweetned with stevia, which is an herb. I drink 2 or 3 of them a day, in additon to eating, it mixes very quickly in a shaker cup, and for about 1 dollar a serving, it's a real bargin compared to some of the higher end protein drinks.

If the Protein is Whey Protien, could you be lactose intolerent? If so taking lactaid tablets with your current protein may help. I was lactose intolerent prior to my surgery and I had good luck by taking 2 acidophillus tablets a day with foods.

I found that the only drink that works for me is Achiev One, it is 20 grams of protein and only 3.5 grams of sugar. My nut thinks it is okay for me. I usually drink two a day and supplement with Tofu. SInce having surgery I do not like meat.. I am down 92 pounds since surgery only 20 more to go to get to 175#.

I was able to find a vitamin shop that would carry the achiev One I usually buy 10 cases at a time. $29.00 per case

Nectar fruit flavored protein by Syntrax is high quality and tastes really good imo. I got a couple of tubs for Big Boner and he really likes to drink the lemonade flavor and he makes SF jello with some of the other fruit flavors.

Its around $25 for a 3 pound tub off the internet, doesn't seem to cause gas although it can foam up unless you mix it slowly.

Good stuff.

That stuff - protein by Syntrax - looks like what I am looking for. Can it be bought at a regular store like Walmart or Target or Costco? Or just online?

They sell it at a few select heath food stores but too costly. Here are a couple links to buy it online which is how I always get it.

I just emailed the compnay to see if they would send me some samples. Most companies will send samples when requested. If I like the stuff I'll order some.

Thanks.
