Response to Hypoglycemic event
Good morning all,
I'm 2 weeks post-op and have a follow up visit with my team this morning. My primary motivation for surgery was my continuing inability to keep control of my diabetes. Since I'm still on full liquids, it's been pretty easy to keep my numbers down but I was awakened at 4:30 this morning felling like I was crashing. I was at 66 and feeling poorly but wasn't sure what to do. Pre-op, I'd have had a sandwich or a tall orange juice and I'd be OK but that's not an option right now. I took a chance and made a 1/2 bowl of Quaker instant oatmeal and thinned that with milk. Ate my 1/2 cup and it seems to be working. Anyone out there have a better solution? As I said, I'm off to my follow-up where I should be given more food choices but I'm not real tickled with myself this morning.
Thanx,
Jim

Good Afternoon all,
I managed to get through this morning OK and made it to my follow-up with my doctor. We covered the issue and think we have a plan. I'm not off my meds yet but that is my overall goal and the reason for my WLS. Some good news. I'm allowed "blenderized" food and I seem to be slightly ahead of the curve in my recovery. My doc released me to go back to work and said I can go back to all physical activities as tolerated with no restrictions.
I've lost 22 lbs in 14 days. Since I was a self pay, I figure this "diet" plan has cost me $1000 per pound.

I had that for a while when I first went on an eating plan that involved carb loading two days a week. Mind you, though that I've never been diabetic.
One piece of advice someone gave me is this: The blood testers for diabetes are not accurate with low figures, probably below 60. Mine was 48 once using Dad's tester.
