How Much Should I Be Eating?

Hey guys, I'm 18 weeks out and lost 86 pounds with about 15 more to go.  Very happy with the results so far and thankfully have expereinced no complications.

I'm still eating mostly soft, liquified foods such as chili, soups, etc.  It seems to satisfy me more than anything else.  I have lost every week from day one.  The last few weeks, I find myself able to consume a bit more than I did in the beginning, which is bothering me.  I recently started eating the low sugar high protein bars in lieu of the protein liquids and shakes.  I find myself able to eat one of the bars within an hour of eating chili or other liquidy food.  I chew it to a liquid state and it satisfies me but does not "fill' me up.

I'm concerned that I'm eating too much but I continue to lose weight.  Is this my mind playing tricks on me or should I be concerned about eating too much?

It sounds like your doing ok.  Many of us have to force ourselves to eat.  The usual warning concerning getting into carbs and sugar.  I went down that road and it was hard to get back on track.  Just be careful with those (playing with the Devil).  Also was wondering if you might have a stricture (a narrowing below the pouch (check with your doc at your 6 month appt.) .  Most people go to more solid foods by a month or two out.  Brian

Eventually you're going to want to take advantage of your surgery so that you will feel full.  18 weeks is an awful long time to be relying only on soft foods.  These will run through your pouch quickly, allowing you both to eat more AND to feel hungry earlier than you otherwise would.  One of the purposes of the RNY pouch or LapBand is to produce a prolonged sensation of satiety by having solid food reside in the pouch for hours.

Even if you're still losing, that will eventually come to an end, and the issue of prolonged satiety will become increasingly important as your change your focus to weight maintenance.

Time for some sirloin tips or chicken breasts; they'll sit in your gut like a stone!

Agree wholeheartedly with FooBear on this one......18 weeks is an awful long time to be relying only on soft foods." Time to be eating dense natural protein sources like poultry, beef, and the like. Fish is a great protein source as well.
