Prozac Question
Anyone else taking Prozac, I have been for 4 weeks now and I have just one concern and it is probably no big deal but would still like suggestions. I take 60mg's daily 40 each morning 20 at night and I might as well be eating Viagra or Cialis. I get erections that last for quite some time and I have apparently lost the abilities to ********* I mean what the heck I am enjoying the added "up" time but would like to finnish before I explode. Any suggestions?
Wow, 60mg of Prozac is a LOT of Prozac. I can vouch for this personally; although I've never been depressed, back in the early 1990s, I saw a MD who was a weight-loss quack, and one of the drugs he used -- unsuccessfully in my case -- was Prozac in high doses (60 - 80mg/day).
The side effect you're describing, an******ia, is a characteristic of all SSRI antidepressants, though it can differ in degree depending on the drug and the dose, and it can be really annoying. As it was, I don't think I was able to come once in the 6 months that I was taking the drug!
There are adjuvant drugs which can be administered along with Prozac which have anecdotal efficacy in helping treat this drug-induced inability to achieve ****** Most psychopharmacologists familiar with SSRIs usually have experience with these other agents, though I honestly don't know how well they work. A few that come immediately to mind are Wellbutrin (bupropion), another non-SSRI antidepressant, and Periactin (cyproheptadine), a serotonin-blocking antihistamine.
