Dehydration or Dump?

Last night I don't know what happened. I had eaten something with regular barbaque sauce on it, without thinking. There was not alot of sauce but it was the sweet kind. About an 1/2 hour later, I got all sweaty and clamy and shakey, felt nauseous and kind of spacey. My brother thought I was having a heart attack. Right away I thought this was my first dump. I called a friend and she started questioning me about my water intake for the day. I had only drank about 40 ounces for the day plus I did a 1 hour spinning class, however I did drink a 24 ounce bottle of water while doing it. She told me I was'nt dumping but that I was dehydrated. She had me get a bottle of water and sip it while we were talking and sure enough after I drank about 8 oz. I started to feel better. So did I have my first dump or was I dehydrated? or was it a combination?

I could be wrong, but it's pretty hard to get dyhyrdrate unless you go for a day or two withou****er and then sweat a lot. The only exception is if you have a fever. The can prevent the water you drink from being absorbed. Was your urine dark? That is an important symptom.

Congratulations on your first DUMP.  May you have many many more...  Mine last 40 minutes and 4 years post I still get them once or twice a day.  A tad too much sugar, one spoon too much of anything will get me.  Keeps me honest.

My first and ONLY dump. I don't want to go thru that again.

It may be hard to distinguish between the two because both = cutback on available blood sugar. Maybe it was both. Sometimes too much liquid too fast can actually deplete electrolytes like sodium and potassium.

I had a weird experience one day. I had just gotten up and I poured myself and big glass of electrolyte rich sports drink and sat down to the internet and proceeded to drink. My head started spinning and I felt like I was going to pass out (very unusual for me while sitting!). I got the BP meter and my blood pressure was like 95/55! I felt tired for a couple of days, but no fever. The only thing I can figure out was that it was some kind of bug.

I'm a little skeptical about dehydration alone (minus a bug of some kind) because I've done about 30 90 minute sessions of yoga in a 104 degree room and never come close. The only difference may be that I drink a lot more sports drink than I do water.

Best Wishes,

Dave

I bet if you looked at the label of the bbq sauce, it had a ton of frickin' sugar in it as most do. Given that, and your symptons, looks like a good old RNY dump to me. Sounds like you're lucky in that it was relatively minor compared to other dumping episodes I've heard about. You're WLS appears to be working as stated.

Nothing cool about what I went thru
I guess I had to find out sooner or later if sugar bothered me. Now I know. Also I found out the hard way I'm VERY lactose intolerent.
Yep, WLS is working
