Why not just lie to the psychiatrist?
Are you trying to tell me that bikini plan isn't going to work?

I had to take 2 written pysch tests - one had 334 questions on it. kinda hard to lie. My psychologist at the Scottsdale Bariatric Center started his evaluation by asking why I thought I had to have a psych eval. He explained that there aren't many surgeries out there that require one first. He stated that the reason was to determine if I was clinically depressed so that they could treat that prior to the surgery as the surgery is only a tool and depression will cause it to fail ultimately. I spoke at length with the psych while he waiting for my tests to be tallied. We talked about my recent marriage issues that have been resolved. We talked about my father that is in prison for raping my sister. Throught it all he told me that he felt I was going to be an ideal candidate and that my additude was in the right place for me to make the best of this tool.
I don't see any need to lie to the pysch.

I think some people lie...and like russ said, some are so crazy that they are just our right denied.
The bigger issue isn't the 20 percent who are denied, but the 10 percent (or whatever the number is) that get WLS, and are freaken crazy. There is a woman on the DS forum, who had an eating disorder before WLS......she went to her psych eval...and basically BS'd her way through it. Didn't tell her surgeon or the psych that she has an eating disorder, and now post op, she is having MAJOR issues. At like 4 weeks out, she was posting things like "i need to get back on track with my eating" WTF??? At 4 weeks out I was barely able to eat a whole scrambled egg....she was stuffing her face with sugary donuts or some crap...lol.
Anyway ....i didnt' tell my psych everything...i told him what he wanted to hear. I think for the most part.... the psych eval is a joke, unless your walking around saying "I want to have WLS because it's gonna make my entire life perfect. plus I think hospitals are fun". They're gonna pass you.

My Psych eval was a joke. It took less than 15 minutes and then he told me he would recommend that I be approved for surgery. I think it took a total of 30 minutes for my wife and I both to be approved. I remember walking from his office to the car saying to my wife, "I guess we fooled him" (I really think that we were both good candidates for WLS) I did a little planning and tried to think of the questions that he would ask me and thought about what I would say. I can't say I was untruthful in my answers, but I tried to make sure I would be as eloquent and put together as possible.
just lie...they really don't know b/c while they're trained to notice subtle changes in body position and tone of voice to tell if you're lying or not, they are still human and if you tell them an answer without seeming like you're lying then they won't know the difference. They are trained to rely on their schooling which is probably why a lot of them commit suicide.
