Back to work two weeks after surgery?

My surgery is October 8th. I would like to get back to work on the 22nd or 23rd. Is that at all reasonable? Will I be feeling well enough?

Thanks,

David

I had surgery 9/22 and started working from home this past Monday (one week later). I went into the office today for 6 hours (9 days out). So yes, if your surgery goes as well as mine did, it's completely within reason to go back two weeks after surgery.

I did a lot of walking starting the day after surgery and I think that really helped me!

I would say it depends on what you do for work.  I had a restriction on how much weight I could lift (20 pounds) for about 5 weeks that kept me out of work.

Good Luck

I work a desk job and was back in a week for what it is worth.

I was out 11 days with my revision in 2003.  I worked a desk job also. The only problem I had was the shuttle ride to the car for a couple of days. I felt every bump.

Make sure you are off the pain meds before driving.

I also started my protein supplement in the hospital. Friends would make a shake for me and I would sip it and I walked also. I think it really helped the healing

I'm a desk jockey too - took a week after surgery to mend, went back 20 hrs week 2, and full time (although working from home) the next. Couldn't wait to get back to the office - th house was closing in on me after 3 weeks!

I went back to work two weeks post op.  I did fine with that.  I, too, work a desk job.  To me the hardest part was facing my fellow workers and answering questions.  I really just wanted to be alone for a while.  I would give yourself as much time as you can afford.  I think the time at home helped me establish some good beginning habits.   Why not?

David.... Getting back to work will be an individual thing.  I had my RNY on 9/18 and I haven't gone back yet.  I had originally planned to go back on 10/7, but have decided to stay out another week and go back the week of 10/13.  I've recovered nicely, but still have some belly pain from the surgery and at times is enough to need pain meds.  Additionally, I also get really week in the middle of the afternoon and go downhill from there.

It took me a few weeks just to get the food thing down (literally and figuratively!) so going back in 2 weeks would not have been an option for me, but hey, if you feel good, go for it! Just don't overdo it...

Could have gone back in 4 but it was  weekend, went back in 6 days. I am a amrketing manager. Do alot of driving and walking. took it easy the first week and was tired at the end of dead, REAL TIRED but it worked out.
Alot has to do with how physically and mentally prepared you are pre-op
