Call your surgeon, that area is prone to blood clots.

If the area feels hot to the touch and/or is red and swollen looking then you should contact your surgeon quickly as that could be signs of a blood clot. However, for peace of mind, contact the surgeon anyway.

Hey there,

If it feels like knives or pins and needles and is very sensitive to the touch, it could ******ve that runs off the front edge of your hip... (something parastetica - or close to that) overweight people that have large stomachs/pannus that hangs over the waist line tend to have this issue. The pannus causes pressure on this nerve and will cause the outer part of the thigh to go numb all the way to the knee or as in my case, it felt like my leg was on fire everytime something touched it.

I would definitely go to your Dr asap especially since you want them to rule out the clot...

What he said.  It's described right here: meralgia paresthetica.

It defintely sounds like some type of nerve pain. I'd call your doctor.

Thanks guys,  I called the surg office and they were not concerned.
I read your info on Meralgia paraesthetica  and that does match.
I will watch is closely and if it continues to happen I will check with the doc again.

 Hi Keith...

I've got the same issue, and yes, it's meralgia parenthetica.  I'm 2 weeks post-op and it seems to diminish little by little each day.  Don't know if they gave you an abdominal binder or not in the hospital, but mine sure has helped.   That's what my surgeon suggested.  If not, it's a good investment...it's a stretchy belly supporter that has a velcro closure that you wrap about your abdomen.  I wear it to bed each night.

Good luck to you bud.

Keith,
Were/are you diabetic? I am and I have an area on the outside of one thigh that seems to be getting hit with neuropathy. It feels like more of a scalding burn than a heat type burn but there is no outward sign of irritation, redness or heat. Mine gets cranky when my BS gets below 80. I also get the same burning on my feet but that is getting better post op as my numbers are getting more in control. Keep us posted on what happens.
