I was on three to four shakes a day for two weeks with no food at all. i just found protein powder I could tolerate better than the others. In the scheme of things, it is not such a big deal. After surgery, your tastes might well change and you won't even like the tastes you liked pre-op.
Samples from the manufacturers work well for this test.
Good luck.

Majesticman makes a good point. My group makes you jump through several hoops before surgery including 6 weeks of educational group sessions. At one of our sessions, we did a taste test of different sorts of protein and I had no problem with any of them. Nothing to crow about but tolerable. After my surgery, I found that I couldn't stand the taste/smell of Unjury protein powder. Can't drink Isopure. I can't even tolerate Special K High Protein. So whatever supplement you choose, go easy on the order quantity till after you're sure you can tolerate it.
Good luck,

Like others have said. Go with samples because your tastes may change. I use vitalady.com for mine. Her husband Don who also had WLS is very supportive.
One thing we normally absorb 30g of protein at a time. I have seen nothing to contradict this. So if your taking in more than this at a meal some of it maybe going to waste.
Now I do not know if we need to take in more so we absorb 30 or if we can just get 30 and it all absorbs. I tends to try and get around 40 in a shake to be on the safe sife.

My WL surgeon put me on an Optifast diet 2 months prior to WLS and I ended up losing 52 pounds. My pre-op diet included 4 Optifast protein drinks per day plus an Optifast protein bar for lunch. Had to chew, chew, chew the bars like 30 times per bite since it was so dense. Got me into the chew, chew, chew habit prior to WLS.
Best of luck,
