Hi.
Congrats on the RNY!
I had RNY Sept 06 & just had my Panni done Sept 23 of this year.
I work out like you do although I can't for a while now

Make sure you are getting proper protein into your diet. Your body will not respond to the exercise if you don't have this. keep in mind that as you develop muscle, it tears & then reparis itself - this is how it grows. If you don't have the right protein, your body will have to do it's best to absorb it from within itself - this just means you will actually waste away and the opposite will happen from what you desire.

I use 2 supplements; 1 is to maintain & 1 I use when I work out.

To maintain I use ISO XP Extreme Whey Protein Isolate
1 scoop (50G) in 8oz water
190 Cal
45G Protein
0.5 G Fat
1.0 G Sugar

To gain when working out I use BIOX Extreme Lean Mass Gainer
2 scoops (75G) in 8oz water
290 Cal
25G Protein
6 G Fat
15G Sugar

The Gainer is supposed to be double that but I can't injest that much at any one time.
Keep in mind that your body can only absorb so much protein at once so loading is pointless. It's best to have 4 servings a day - or whatever your requirements are.
I'm very sensitive to sugar but the gainer is formulated so that the protein levels out the insulin spike & negates it.

Be sure to have protein about 30 minutes after you work out. 2 hours later, have another serving.

You have to increase you Cal intake or you'll be in trouble. your body doesn't have too much in reserve so eventually it'll work against you - this is why you're tired all the time cuz your system is starting to consume itself.

Keep up the excellent work - it's a long journey but every step is wonderful.

I live in Alberta Canada but I do have a home in Desert Hot Springs. I'll be there for a couple weeks in the beginning of November this year & I can't WAIT to get "home" again.

Take care,
Andrew

900 calories is not enough for the activity level you are pursuing. Try increasing your protein intake, honestly at 2 1/2 years out I still drink 3 protein shakes a day plus food, it's the easiest way to add protein without adding a ton of carbs and fat .

Am I doing to much Exercing for what i am eating?

That's what it sounds like to me.  You need to eat more or exercise less (or maybe a little of both!)

Also, have you had any post-op lab work performed yet?  What's your supplement regimen?

Sounds fine.  The subtext of my question was whether your iron and Hgb/Hct might be low, but I'm pretty sure that these levels would have been tested at the same time.  Some post-op guys become iron-deficient and suffer fatigue as a result, though it's less frequent than in menstruating women.  So, yeah, I still think it might be your food/exercise balance!

Scott,
It doesn’t sound like you are getting in enough nutrition to support that much exercise while losing.
If you up your overall calories (mostly through protein and low-glycemic carbs) and you are still feeling fatigued all of the time?
Then, I have glommed together some info…
F-is-for—FATIGUE! Try upping the calories just about 5% each wee****il you notice a positive result.
And keep a close eye on your iron and B-Vitamins.
Keep up the awesome progress on your losing,
But aim to get into a habit of a Life Style and healthy eating choices
That are sustainable from now on….
And that should include “Feeling good,” not drained.

Hey Scott,

Rest and recovery are important aspects of every exercise program. Too much exercise will result in you getting burnt out....both physically and mentally. I would suggest you dial back the exercise to 5 days a week and have a couple of days off each week.

The limited caloric intake isn't helping matters either so, in addition to the protein, make sure you're getting in lots of good solid complex carbs (i.e. fruits, veggies, whole wheat, etc.) It's our exercise fuel and at 14 weeks out, you should be able to eat some of it by now.

Easier said than done I know. Try to have an energy (high carb) bar each day as a snack. Clif bars and Larabars are good organic brands. Buy you a box of either and munch on one throughout the day. Ain't no substitute for fresh fruits and veggies but might be easier for you to digest.

Keep up the great work, man!!
