All systems are go! T Minus 12 days and counting!
Met with my surgeon yesterday afternoon. All went well and all my ducks are in a row. This is my last appointment of any kind before my RNY on the 27th.
Each day can not pass fast enough - except for the day before cuz i need to make sure I have everthing ready to go.
Surgeon did prescribe a beta blocker to take a week before surgery and 2 weeks following surgery. It is the only thing I am supposed to put in my mouth the morning of surgery with a tiny sip of water. Any one else have this too?

Hmmm....that's odd. I don't know why he would make you do that because when they give you blood thinners (if they do, they did for me) that can interact with the blood thinners in a negative way so I have no idea what your surgeon's plan is....I would ask what the protocol is going to be though if I were you, always make sure you understand what and why they are telling you to do things with YOUR body. Sometimes surgeons can get a little pompous if you ask too many questions but it doesn't matter because it's YOUR body they're cutting up. Good luck to you and I hope everything goes splendidly!
Oh the Doc told me why. He said that my labs looked great and that I don't have heart disease but I am at risk for heart disease because of my diabetes and hypertension. He told me that studies showed that it was best for people at risk for heart disease to take a beta blocker perioperative (fancy word for around the time of your operation). I will take his word for it. Funny thing - it is the same medication my wife takes for her ventricular tachycardia.
So i did my homework and found this tidbit of info on the New England Journal of Medicine :

Good luck Dan - everything will go great! Personally I did not have to take any meds on the morning of my surgery. I also have diabetes (I guess - my #'s are normal now).
BTW - I love Mesa! What a beautiful area! I travel there (Phoenix) on business a couple times a year. Love the university area. Oregano's, Gordon Birsch, Monty's steak house. Hmmm.. ain't it funny how all my favorite things are food related? It'll be interesting the next time I go there .... what will I have to look forward too?!?
Good luck Dan!
