how do you add calories

I am almost 8 weeks post op. A month ago I was told to get in 70g of protein and between 800 and 1200 calories. Protein first of course. I was to eat meats as tolerated chopped up and chewed, soft vegetables like well cooked cauliflower and eat cheeses and some crackers with any of the above in very small amounts. No breads, no rice no crunchy vegetables.

Here is the thing. I have hit the protein mark with no problem. Usually using only one protein drink. The thing is I can not seem to hit the 800 calorie mark.

Typical day might be

Breakfast: Protein drink mixed with water. Nectar
Mid morning: a 1-egg egg salad and few crackers I use soy chips.
Lunch: Laughing cow cheese wedge and some more Soy crisps
afternoon snack: 2-3 oz chicken and hot sauce with some blue cheese dressing lite
Dinner: 2oz ground turkey and tomatoes sauce with a little Romano cheese and broccoli
After dinner snack: 2 SF Popsicles

All that got me up to a whopping 671 calories. 77g protein

What the heck would you add to that? In my brain I can't seem to add anything because it is calories unless it is protein but I already hit what they said I needed?? this is really messing with my head. Part of me is afraid to add anything.

I am trying to avoid wheat as doing that seems to clear up my sinus problems (avoid one more drug).

I do see the nutritionist next week and will ask her all the same. I expect them to add most any food that I want in small trial portions.

a couple of things...i had trouble getting about 800 cals for about a year and a half ..I do no thave that problem today...

but if you are getting in the protein... I think you are OK...but you can go over that protein if you want...a blob of peanut butter would kick you over..that is high in protein too..a cup of milk

you may have to get a little more fat in your diet...to absorb some vitamans...

I think you are in good shape so far...don;t sweat it

I agree with Russ; as long as you're getting in adequate protein, why even begin to worry about counting calories, esp at only 8 weeks post-op?   I'm almost 11 mos. out, and I haven't worried about calories in any serious way just yet.

Agreed with above, 4 years post and have never counted 1 calorie.  Add some fruit to get some simple sugars - carbs to help in muscle repair

Thanks guys. I have been using the daily plate to count my protein and it does the calories too. I was given that goal and well upping my calories kind of freaks me out.

I will let it go and just concern myself with pro tine and listen to my stomach for when to stop. Hard to ignore that head!
