New to Forum with Lapband
Hey Guys,
Just found this men's forum. So many of the others are mostly female. It's nice to talk to other guys about our issues.
I had lapband surgery on 7/16 and am down a total of 40+ pounds with the pre and post-op diets. It has literally slowed to a turtle's pace over the past 2 months. My surgeon is pretty conservative on fills and I just lose because of diet changes. After my last (3rd) fill, I can finally feel it now and then. It just isn't consistent yet. I go back in 2 weeks for most likely another fill.
My question for you is, "How long did it take you to get to the proper fill level and once there have you lost consistently?".

Tom -
Its took me 4 months to get to a decent restriction, and the difference was immediate. Funny thing is, 1 month later, the level of restriction is now less than it was and I am back to a less-restrictive state. I have had 5 fills, 7cc total in a 10cc band. I go back on 10/30 for another fill appointment. My surgeon told me that the more weight you lose, the looser the band/restriction gets. Its because as you lose abdominal fat, the position of the band shifts slightly, so that's why we have to go back to get fills periodically. I'm not sure what happens when the band gets full, hopefully the excess weight is gone by then. I'm going to ask the doc this question next week.
As for the snail's pace losing, my weight loss has slowed over the last month, coincidentally with the restrictive fill. My weight loss was very rapid at the start, now I've lost maybe 4 lbs in the last month. I am eating less, so maybe that has caused my body to plateau. Could be the same for you, too. Just hang in there, keep eating right and exercising. If we stick to it, the weight has no choice but to come off. At least that's what my surgeon said. He guaranteed me I would get to my goal if I exercised and did nothing to sabotage my weight loss. I guess I have been overweight so long, I am impatient and even skeptical sometimes.
Not sure that I really answered you since I am about in about the same spot on the journey as you are. My best guess is that as we lose, restriction will fluctuate. Good luck!

"It was a long way, but he knew where he was going." Corey Ford, The Road to Tinkhamtown.
Stephen, Sounds like we are at the same spot. I am noticing this fill even more as it goes on. In a week, I had 4 times where it stuck and I slimed. I east less and can't east certain stuff like bread and pasta much. So, I am getting to where I suspect I need to be. -- Tom

Lap-Banders are probably not posting as much because they are the extreme minority, at least they are in here. That doesn't mean yall can't post though dammit!!! We want to hear from all sides of the spectrum not JUST RNY/DS, etc....But as for your not being able to find the men's board blame that on the management because they freakin' bury us to the bottom of that hard-to-navigate forum selector page, *******s. But welcome to the men's group. We're kind of rowdy but not NEARLY as bad as Tuna City is.
I agree. The menu of the boards sucks. It is hard to find anything.
