Hernia repair next week
I know hernias are pretty common with those of us who've had open abdominal surgery so I'm sure a few of you have had this done. Looking for some info on what I can expect directly after surgery and then the healing process in the months to come....the good, the bad, the ugly....keep it coming. I want to be prepared.
Anything I should buy ahead of time? Maybe some compression clothing, shirts? These things seem to be quite expensive so I don't want to end up ordering the wrong thing.
Thanks in advance!

The surgeon who did my RNY is not the same surgeon doing my hernia repair. My new surgeon has a very good reputation and great stats. Why would you suggest I wait until it becomes and emergency situation? He said I could wait but suggested I get it taken care of sooner rather than later as it is very large and waiting will only cause more adhesions and make the surgery more difficult.

I was just saying wait as long as possible because your RNY experience was horrific and I didn't want you to have to repeat that if at all possible you know? Not that waiting to have a hernia repair is a good thing b/c it's not, you should definitely get it fixed but I wouldn't go to that same person who did your other surgery.

hey Adam...
man you have just dropped like a stone..
ok I have had 2 hernia repairs...mine were lap...sounds like you have had some problems in the past..
so I will speak for mine...one was an umbilacle hernina..on the belly button...it was quick and easy...45 min from start to finish...felt like I had been punched..but that was about it...
second..it was an internal hernia...I was rolling on the floor like a mad man before the surgery...after the surgery...I felt like I had been punched...
doc did not suggest a compression garment..but I had one..and put it on..I was my choice...but I will say...I felt better after both surgeries than before...
