What's a lapband sweet spot feel like?
Hi Guys,
I suspect my last fill is putting me pretty close to my "sweet spot". I hear that a lot from my surgeon and folks on the boards. I am curious about what that means to you. When you reached your sweet spot, how did it feel and how did you know you reached that perfect fill in the band?

Howdy Tom,
For me, I know I'm where I need to be when I can tolerate eating "most" anything that I should be eating, in the amounts I should consume...and I get that full feeling that will last me 3-4 hours.
I just had some revision work done on my port and some tubing, and I know I'm not back to where I want my restriction to be, but I will make an appointment for next week and should be back in that saddle before too long. Right now I have to be very careful on the amounts I eat...I know I'm still not "overeating" in anything close to what my former "normal" was, but I want so badly to do it right that I'm not about to let it get away from me this time!
I have the feeling that YOU will know what your "sweet spot" is when you hit it. You find yourself living quite comfortably with the band...it's your new normal, and life is, well...sweet.

i just hit the sweet spot. i get full on a reasonable amount of food, usually 3 ounces of protein or so, and I don't feel hungry for 3 hours or so after a meal. like the other guys said you just know when you are there. There is a book called "the lapband solution" that is a very good resource for band guys, you should check it out. I got my copy from Amazon.
Thanks for the replies. That is what I am expecting. Right now I can fee restriction and definitely know when I went to far or ate the wrong thing. What is missing is the feeling of fullness. I am guessing I might need .5cc this coming week. That will bring me to 7cc in the 14cc band. -- Tom

Tom,
My story is a little different. I had gotten several fills over a period of about a year. After my last fill I started having trouble. Whenever I laid down my food would come back up even in my sleep. It was very scary to wake up with a little food comming back up into your mouth. It turns out my band was too tight (which they determined by this problem and an upper GI.
My Dr. loosened the band too give my stomach and esophagaus a chance to recover. He then adjusted it slightly. So now I know it's adjusted at the max.

Dan,
Thanks! I don't want it to be so tight so that something like that happens. This week has been a learning experience for me. I don't know why a week passed after the fill until I could feel it and have restriction. This morning I decided to have a couple of turkey sausage links with my oatmeal in my work cafeteria. Man, the sausage really filled me and I was on the verge of it coming back up. I made sure I chewed it thoroughly. So, I have learned another food I need to avoid.
I never thought much about having to re-evaluate what I thought was safe after each fill. I suspect I am at a good fill or maybe just a little less. The scale has been dropping every day. I have also read other things that can happen with a too tight band. I suspect my surgeon will make me go another month with this last fill. I am OK with that since I am going to be going on a business trip and a 10 day cruise after that in November. I don't want to be ill all the time.

For me the sweet spot is about 2 weeks after a fill and then last about a month. The fills take awhile to kick in. It took me until 7ccs in my band until I finally had that sweet spot restriction. After the sweet spot goes away I still have good restriction, but I can eat a little more at night than I would like. Once I get the weight all the way off it will be fine with just the good restriction.
I am feeling better when I read replies like yours. It is what I have been experiencing this week. I think I said this earlier... It's a new lesson on eating with each fill. I am now pretty certain I need to stay at this level for some time. The scale seems to indicate it is a good thing to do. I need to stop beating up on myself over this. -- Tom from Ohio
