Men who've had a VSG
Jay-
Thanks for the reply, All the info ive recieved here has been very helpful and greatly appreciated. I spent a lot of time reading on the VSG forum, but had a hard time finding men to ask questions to, or General male experiences to read about. The ladies are helpful, but toooooo much dramatical content for this simple guy! The "locker room" has been a find amongst finds for me.
Thanks to EVERYONE for sharing and the kind words of encouragement!!!!

Ryan,
Congratulations on making the decision to change your life!
For me, the VSG was the best choice for several reasons... I was self-pay, and it was the least expensive. I have a child with a feeding tube, and the idea of having permanent hardware put into my gut like his just turned me off. I had long conversations with the Dr. and here on OH and in person with folks I know who've had RnY and came to realize that you CAN out-eat any of the surgeries, so you have to work at whatever you decide.
Given all that, it turned into a no brainer for me - get the cheapest, easiest surgery available from the best doctor I could find, and work like hell to make it work. I just had my 6 month post-op visit with the Dr. yesterday, and truly couldn't be more pleased with my choices. I could be working it a bit harder, but I'm generally following the plan, and it's great.
As for the Dr. question - you might want to click through and check out Dr. Walton and WeightWise here in OKC/Edmond. I'm not sure what their current price is for VSG (it was $9995 when I had mine in May, but may have gone up since - check their website.) My personal opinion is that these guys are the best around for pre-op, surgery, and follow up care. And, they would be a fairly easy day trip away from the KC area by car or a short 50 minute flight. For more testimonials, check out the Oklahoma forum - lots of their satisfied patients there.
Best of luck with whatever you do! I felt like making the decision was truly the hardest part, and you've got that covered!

"My Profile" then "Profile color and photos" in there you link your photo. I think I actually croped and cut mine down to size and uploaded it to my website and just put a link to there. You can probably upload a photo to the photo's section and get a link from there as well.
Not much help sorry. I think there was a photo approval process too, but I could be way off.
Funny thing... My name is actually Ryan too! LOL.Guess we could be twins w/ same names! =P
Man, I've been trying to quit smoking and on top of that try to pre-op diet a bit earlier than they told me too. What an effort! The quitting smoking part is the biggest pain. I try not to smoke any, but wind up having 2-3 at night after I get home. I'm doing pretty well not smoking from wake up until i get home from work. To much going on at once. The surgery, quitting smoking, dieting, roommate is a disgusting pig that I have to spend one more month with and my 7 month old kittens are driving me so damn insane i'm about to drown one.
Dieting I'm pretty much having about 20oz of protine drink (regular portion of powder, a bananna, little cream or light silk some water and ice.). Handful of nuts around 1pm then some kind of home made soup (egg-drop, pea, tomato, whatever i'm up to) I typically blend them to get used to blended consistancy. If I snack at night it's just a couple handfuls of popcorn, reduced fat cheese-its or maybe a couple bites of cottage cheese. i've pretty much kicked soda. I do crystal light at home, usually a low-carb monster during the day at work. typically beer binge on friday nights though.
Does that sound like a decent start? I know part of my problem is my irregular eating times. I'll have to change that post-op for sure.
Sorry for ramblin'. The stress is really getting to me and I've been venting everywhere possible LOL.
Ryan, Much aggreeance on the regular forums. Lots of drama and wineyness.

Hey Ryan-
I also hear you on the quitting smoking thing, I have just the oppostie problem though. I have to have them while im at work, but as soon as i get home i dont need em any more. Unless i decide to have a few drinks, then its on! So yeah im guilty of getting hammered on the weekends too, that will probably be the thing i miss more than any food after my WLS, I LOVE BEER. :( , but its actually beer that has gotten me in this mess as much as food has.
Beer, food, and bad genetics... Thats my story and im stickin too it!!!
It sounds like you've gotten a better start than i have, Im still trying to get a surgery date and financing in order. I hate borrowing money, but who has ten grand layin around extra? Well besides banks that want to give lousy interest rates and high admin fees. And i have spotless credit!!! You never can tell which lending institutions are good and which are scam artists.
At any rate it sounds like you're doing all you can for the necessary preparations. Keep up the hard work and positive attitude. Much props for starting your preop diet early, I probably wont do mine a day longer than i have too!
