Colace for breakfast and colace for dinner. Threw in prune juice diluted 50'50 with water and then tons of water.  It worked after 3 days. Painful. Was told  by Dr that if that did not work to use a suppository.

I have since moved to using benefiber in hopes of avoiding the problem completely.

I've taken 1-2 Colace pills everyday since getting home from surgery. Definitely softens it up enough to make it a lot easier to pass.

3 chewable Benefiber tablets a day and Badia Natural Slimming Tea. It doesn't cause weight loss except what you deposit in the tiolet! LOL! Around my house, we call it "boo-boo" tea, "hey honey, can you make some boo-boo tea for me?" LOL

Constipation is painful, as you well know. Having spent so much time in your exact predicament, I feel compelled to offer you the benefit of my limited wisdom on this matter. Best advice, if you're "stopped-up" just launch a supository. It's no big deal, it works every time, and it certainly beats being so uncomfortable. Second best advice, be careful useing the fiber suppliments, some can give you terrible gas pains and all of them will make the situation worse if you DON'T DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER. ie. incredibly huge stools that can cause bleeding when passed. Finally, and I think I presently I have things under control, I eat a bowl of eatmeal each morning, (I have a special receipe if you're interested). I also take a stool softner (w/o the laxative) twice a day. The digestive system is slow to respond so make these chages and be patient. Hope everything comes out alright. :)

I, too, wonder if I will need to be thinking more about this in the upcoming weeks.  Two days ago, I had one of those huge ones.  I think I almost know what it is like to give birth now, that sucker was so big..... well it was so big that when I flushed the toilet it got stuck and clogged up my toilet.  It took me forever to drill through that baby and get my toilet working again.  This is all in addition to the fact that it hurt like a son of a *****

I'm going to try eating more fiber as one way to deal with this.  Up to now, I haven't had any issues with this.

I don't know if you can do this or not if you have had rny.  I can eat splenda with no problem with the band.  I learned hard way of the laxative effects of sugar substitutes at the movies.  If you eat a whole bag of sugar-free life savers it will make you hit the bathroom for a few hours.  After that experience I checked the bag and yep it says it right below the nutrition label that eating a bunch can cause a laxative effect.

Sugar-free chocolates will also cause a laxative effect. What I have been doing lately is eating Fiber One products. They're delcious and I invariably go at least every other day if not more. It's fabulous.

You can take 1000 mg of magnesium oxide a day with your daily suppliment regime ...I take mine at night before I go to bed, it helps ensure a nice poo in the morning. As a DSer generally we tend not to have constipation issues, but I started to get really hard poos after starting an iron suppliment (needed it because of labs). Nothing worked, MOM makes me have DHR, colace doesn't do anything except make your poos soft...it doesn't "flush" you out, and while I like Pericolace, I don't like the idea of taking a laxitive everyday. SO I started taking magnesium oxide based on some advice from michelle (vitalady). It works like a charm, when I'm off the iron I dont' need it...so it's non habit forming...which is good.
