Hey there.  Surgery is this coming monday (11/10/08).  I am getting pretty nervous.  I've been reading through posts looking for tips and trying to calm my nerves.  It works here and there.  Sometiems I am really looking forward to all the benefits and other times I am completely freaked out.

Welcome to the Locker Room!

Follow the Four Mantras of Life Post WLS:

1.  Sip, sip, sip.  You need your fluids.
2.  Walk, walk, walk.  Excercise and reduce risk of clots.
3.  Any problems - CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!  'nuff said.
4.  Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!  You may be changing your diapers!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Listen to Don as he's given you the program. It's completely normal to be somewhat freaked out prior to WLS but, bottom line, your life has got to change or the downward spiral of obesity will continue. Time for a life-changing (saving?) event. The transformation happens fast so hang on to your britches.

Best of luck in your journey.

Hey J.  I'm going on 11/20 and I am going through the same thing, sometimes I am psyched to go and get it done and then I'm like freaked out by what if's.  I am seeing more and more how much I need to get this done though.  I've tried everything since the age of 8 years old (my first weigh****chers meeting) and have always carried extra weight, now it seems like every year I get bigger and bigger and doing this surgery is going to be a life line to the rest of my life.  I look at my Dad and Uncle and all the problems that extra weight has given them in their later years, and it is not worth carrying it around.  Good luck to you and i'll look for you after we get it done.

Jami,
Getting a little freaked is normal. What you're about to do is permanent, irreversible, and life changing. What's to worry about? There will be the change in the way you feel when you eat, changes in what you eat and a list of do's and don't's as long as your arm. I believe the KISS method, as outlined above is your best shot. Keep in mind that for every "down" thing, there are twice as many "up" things. When you get sick and tired of being sick and tired, log on and vent. We've all been there and nobody gets too caught up in it.
Keep the faith and in a few weeks, you'll be responding to someone's post telling them how you got through the tough parts.
Good Luck,
Jim
