Halloween, the first leg of the dreaded "GET FAT" holiday triple crown is now behind us. I did ok sans the Monday chocolate binge.

Thanksgiving, the second leg, is in our headlights and I'm preparing now in order to mitigate the damage. My plan is to try to take off 5 pounds prior to the pigfest in order to build in a cushion so to speak. Ramp up the exercise and lay off the carbs is my plan then once the big day arrives, load up on high-protein turkey first and foremost.

You guys got any thoughts on damage control techniques? Thanks in advance.

Man i totally hear you on the halloween thing, my girlfirend came home after shopping the day after halloween and she had bought 8LBS of CHCOLATE AND CANDY!!! becaue it was 50-75% off.  Im like "are you Freakin kiddin me??". Im trying to loose weight pre op and you spread 3 million calories worth of chocolate around the house! AHHH, what a nightmare.  Yesterday i couldnt take it anymore and i boxed all of it up and put it in a spare bedroom. "Out of sight, Out of mind"  Of course the girl that weighs like 140lbs tells me to "use some self control". HA

Not having a WLS yet, i cant give to much good advice, but i think your technique is genious to loose extra weight before the holiday in question so you can fully enjoy the spirit of the seasons.

On prior weight loss adventures i would load up on raw veggies and fruit from the app table before dinner, therefore not leaving as much room for the feeding frenzy at the dinner table.

good thinkin

Well since I dump from sugar I had no problem with Halloween.
This will be my first Thanksgiving since having surgery.
And since it will most likely be just my brother and I, it will be easy to plan the meal around foods that cater to my needs.
Since my brother only eats white meat, I will make a turkey breast for him and 2 turkey thighs for me(those will make PLENTY of leftovers).
Mashed potatos for him, mashed cauliflower for me.
For the stuffing, I will make the homemade bread stuffing for him, and for me I'm going to add all the stuffing ingredients except the bread to some cooked Quonia and bake that with the turkey.
For veggies, peas and corn for him, brussels sprouts for me.
Desert will be something store bought for him, and a baked apple for me with some sugar free cool whip.
So far thats my menu.

Great response.  I am going to cut and paste it to my wife.
Mashed cauliflower? any good do you make it just like mashed potatoes?

Thanks,

Oh buddy!  Mashed cauliflower is the bomb.  My wife fixes it just like mashed potatoes, and even puts reduced fat cream cheese in it when she mashes it, because fat free is nasty.
