Post RNY...and the healing process...
Just throwing this one out there. RNY people who get surgery of any type...are they more prone to a slower healing process. We know there is a lack of absorption going on post WLS. Even if we take all our vitamins, there still may be issues (in the healing process) we have to face, that others who have not chosen WLS might face. I know for myself that after about 6 months, I've noticed I would scratch myself real easily. I don't think it is from getting older. I think my skin may be missing some things that may not show up on the labs (and yes I have had my vitamin D checked). So just putting this one out there...whether it be a scratch on the hand, plastic surgery, or other types of issues. Is the healing process slower for us?? Brian
Hi, Brian --
I have now consulted several plastic surgeons, and read a few books about post-bari PS, and watched a bazillion videos.
What comes up frequently is, that post-MO skin has "issues" of various kinds. It stretches differently, and is more prone to poor circulation than skin that was never traumatized by obesity. It heals differently, and the better PSs have nutritionists on their staff to address these issues pre-operatively, if at all possible.
So two things impact post-op skin: 1) Having been stretched on an obese body for years, making it more fragile; and 2) nutritional deficiencies.
