Hair Loss

Good morning all,
I'm 3 months out and, as predicted, the hair loss has started pretty well. My question is for those who've experienced this. How far does it usually go? Will I have thinning hair or a chrome dome? I've heard that the situation reverses itself after the period of fast weight loss but I've never spoken with anyone who has dealt with this. I'm not particularly worried about it since the up side of the surgery far outweighs any hair issues but I'd like to know what to plan for. If it's all going away and never coming back, I'll just head to the barber and get a jump on it.
Thanx,
Jim

With me it got thin for like 2 months then the hairloss stopped and now my hair is better looking than ever. So no, it doesn't last forever.

I am 4 months post op and at 3 months I started to notice more hair on my pillow.  Then I yelled at my wife for not cleaning out her hair in the shower.  She said it was mine.  The last thing was I get my hair cut every 2 weeks and I normally get it thined out, but my barber said that my hair was thining out by itself.

4 months out, I believe, it has stopped and has started to come back.  Like yourself I could be bald and could care less, because of the 130 pound weight lose so far.

Make sure you get enough protein.  This will help

I've been a chromedome for some years, but when the hairloss started it wasn't confined to my head.  After a couple of months things were back to normal - the hair on my back and butt grew back thicker than ever.  LOL

My hair started getting thinner at about 4 mos. I lose maybe a few strands a day and I haven't gotten a haircut since Sept. and I used to get cut about every 6 weeks. I take 1000 mg of biotin a day and now that I am approaching 6 mos. out....fallout seems to be slowin down. From what i understand...this is normal and it will grow back eventually in near future. I also heard zinc as well as biotin will help it grow back but I have only used the biotin so far. Good luck!!!    John

protein, protein.  Get your protein in and it will stop!

My hair has been thinning for years now (thanks Dad), so I really didn't see that much of a difference after my RNY EXCEPT for my body hair.  This, however, only lasted about 3 months.  Once you're able to eat more protien you will probably see it slow down/stop.

Definitely up your protein if you think you're thinning out. I definitely saw a lot of thinning out around month 2-4. After that it stopped and now my hair is thicker than ever and I'm having to get a haircut a lot more often!

My surgeon told me to increase my vitamin cap to 2 caps instead once daily (Centrum). I had good results, you can comment this to your MD.

Thanks to all for your insights. I have upped my protein intake and I already take two Centrum caps daily. I may add biotin to the mix but it's likely that I'll just go with whatever happens. I've decided to visit the barber this week and get it cut really short so that if it does go, it won't be such a huge change. Otherwise, it is what it is.
Thanx,
Jim
