Campral ?

My new doctor gave me this to help me stop drinking .He didnt seam to think there is proublem with taking this and gastic bypass. When you read side affects on med now adays they all seam dangrous. Does anyone know much about this drug?  DX are you around  here still?

Don't know much about that.  I would run it by a bariatric surgeon.  I wish you well with  facing this tough problem and finding solutions to help you with alchohol dependence.

Campral is the tradename for acamprosate.  I don't believe that its mechanism of action is well understood, but it's been used for quite awhile in Europe; only recently in the US.  Nothing that I know about the drug would suggest that it would be dangerous in people who have had gastric bypass.

Thanks for the input .Campral seams to be working i have lost most of the urge to have a beer after work as I was doing 4 nights a week which resulted in me puting 30 pounds back on.
