I had a bout with Parathyroid Cancer in January 2006. (I say a bout because the surgeon removed one of four parathyroid glands and then I had six weeks of radiation and no issues since). Anyway, now my endocrinologist says that I have early stages of hypothyroidism (I am currently trying 50mg a day of Synthroid) and it is causing weight gain no matter what I do. Any thoughts on this keeping me from having RNY. I am still in the research stages and my insurance is switching in January 2009, so I will be jumping in with both feet as soon as I get the new insurance info.
you might want to consider a more distal surgery like the DS. The DS will counter the metabolic changes that the synthroid causes, the DS acutally changes your hormonal response to food, hence changes your bodies inclination to make fat (the RNY does this to a certain extent, but not to the extent of the DS) there are DSers who take synthroid and have easily made it to goal.
